I weighed today and was up higher than before. 169.5. I have been on plan all week and all last week. I am sore from running sprints but other than that I just don't know. Guess my body just wants to be fat. Lol, sad part is I wasn't satisfied at 148 but would love to be back there now. Oh well, still gonna be a beautiful day. I'm so sorry about the disappointing weigh-in, but hang in there. I'm sure it's just a bit of a delayed reaction for some reason. Next week will be better! You're doing the right things, so like Pam said, your body will respond (it's just being a little stubborn right now!).

That would suck... I get REALLY tired of counting every little thing. And quite frankly, I'm not a nice person if I can't have the occasional Chinese food (Taco Bell, French Fry, Ice Cream... ah - all things high carb) binge. Yeah, I think you've stated some of the reasons that I slipped recently - but the price I paid for that mistake makes me more determined to count every carb every day, and NOT convince myself that it's okay to binge/cheat (I know other people can, which makes it tempting. But I've got to learn that I'm not other people, and I can't!) Enjoy your freedom and flexibility! I don't mean to sound ungrateful for my situation. I am profoundly grateful that my body responds so well to this diet, and I do get healthier and thinner eating this way. Yes, I have to be very strict, BUT at least I get to eat until I'm full, and I don't have to be hungry all the time. And I have some friends with serious health problems that can't be treated through diet, so I am very lucky that my issues are (largely) treatable and not that serious.

Yesterday's Exercise: none. I had a migraine. Yesterday's Food: 41c/65p/162f Today's weigh-in: 133.4. Today is normally a running day, but I have to take one of my pups to the vet at the time I'd normally be running, so I'm not sure what I'll do (it will be too hot to run later). But hopefully I'll have the motivation to do something, anything!

I had an unhappy moment on the scale this morning. Ugh. 131.something yesterday; 135.something this morning. I am remember this type of thing is how a body works; I am not looking toward what I ate or didn't eat. What I drank or didn't drink. Some of the difference could be the tile floor of yesterday at Mom's, the wood floor at home this morning. Yes, the same scale I am hauling about.
I am about to zero in on the right chewiness factor for my daily gelatin creations. This morning's additions included a T of Vitamin C crystals which I had to correct that taste with another T of xyla because it was too biting. Essential oils were lemon, tangerine, and something called octoea which is an oil Young Living produces that reportedly decreases appetite. I am rarely hungry but I prowl for food still. Maybe that will help me out. Of course, going outside or to a coffee shop or anything to get away from my kitchen would help, too. Ha!

, at least you know a huge bounce like that has to be water weight. Agreed... I have a friend who totally freaks out every time her weight adjusts a couple pounds. She always blames it on something when in reality it's normal. Hugs to you, rejoice! It'll work itself out!!! Plus - my scale sometimes reads different on different floors too... both floors are linoleum but I get two different readings often. Didn't stay on plan last night... Got some bad news and had a small melt-down that threw my very tight schedule off. So... no Chipotle. Meh. I wasn't that excited about it anyway, and necessity being the mother of invention helped me yet again. I had to be somewhere quick, so I ate a Luna bar. Which helped me make it through my appt and then came home. Not much in my fridge but I threw some turkey pastrami (I get the Butterball kind) on a plate with some shredded cheddar and nuked it. Then I grabbed some jalepenos and rolled them up in the cheesy meat. YUM. It's a slightly different take on a jalepeno popper and I'd definitely try this again with cream cheese but it's delish with cheddar. Easy to make, and easy to pack - I'm eating it for lunch this very second! LOL

I managed to stay on plan most of the week but I refuse to get on the scale. Got up early this morning to go to the car wash and buy groceries. I got ingredients to make LC pepperoni pizza. I've tried the cauliflower crust and ones made with almond flour, but the cream cheese one is my favorite. Flourless, gluten free pizza

Well, this is not my best report ever. I didn't have time to exercise yesterday because we got busy with a few unexpected things. So that's two days in a row without exercise. My weight went up this morning to 135.8, so while that's probably a normal fluctuation which doesn't indicate anything meaningful, it's still disappointing. My food was fine yesterday, though. (40c/59p/131f).
I had a package of sugar-free lime jello on hand, so I experimented with making gummy candies using that. I'm sure it's nowhere near as good or as healthy as the ones you guys have been making with stevia, essential oils, etc. but they were super easy to make, and they taste pretty good to me. I just used the sugar-free jello, two additional packets of gelatin, and 1/2 cup of water. I poured it into candy molds since I happen to have some, but I would think you could just as easily pour it into a dish of some sort and then cut it into squares.
I read a tip somewhere that when using unflavored gelatin packets, you need to break up the gelatin by either mixing it with other ingredients (sugar is what was mentioned) or dissolving it in COLD water. They said if you pour it directly into hot water it will clump (jello doesn't do this since the gelatin is pre-mixed with other ingredients). I don't know how true that is, but I've been doing it anyway just in case, and I haven't had any clumping issues. So I thought I would throw that out for your consideration.

Hey everybody, I made these this morning with the only substitution being Xyla for honey. They are dense as one would want. Too sweet though for something I don't think of as sweet. If I make them again, I'd take out the sweet all together to see what I think of that. Wish I had some butter on hand to go with them. www.paleogonesassy.com/paleo-egg-mcmuffins/A friend on another forum who is currently doing a fat fast had taken bite size pieces of cream cheese and rolled them in sugar free jello straight out of the packet. I am still having fun with my gelatin experimentation. Recipe this morning: 2T Xyla, 4T gelatin (I am using Great Lakes I bought in my local health food store); 20-30 drops of essential oils (I am a Young Living Essential Oil consultant so I have lots to choose from in my personal stash. These do not have any alcohol in them which many versions do.) 2C water. What I do with mixing it up is mix the two dry ingredients together then stir in a cup of cold water. Then I add in a cup of hot water along with the oils. No scale for me for a few days. Fell into Mom's sandwich bread last night. Ugh.

Took Mom to a Cotton Patch Cafe for dinner--lots of fried foods at those places. I ate grilled tilapia and some steamed veggies. Ate some of her sweet potato fries and had the tiniest of bites of peach cobbler. Something in all that caused a bit of unhappy gut. Kinda weird. Didn't last too long. All is well.

Instead of giving you my usual report of my diet from yesterday, can I pretend that yesterday never happened? Wt today was 135.2 Average weight for the week was 134.0, so that's 1.0 pound less than last week.

I'm re-reading the Diet Cure and think maybe I need to take her advice on eating more seriously. The supplements have helped me to curb overeating, but I still have episodes of falling face first into carbs. I've been dieting in one form or another for the last 16 months. Maybe it's time for a planned break.

I have gotten to the place of not ever thinking of being on "a diet." I am choosing the manner in which I eat instead to reach certain goals. Mostly I think of being healthy, big swaths of time eating so that my person is smaller physically. How we use words is important. "Diet" to me means deprivation, therefore, I never use that word.

For me, that is what being on a diet means and diet feels like deprivation.

Happy Memorial Day!!
I made my first batch of kimchi last week. I had made some fermented pickles and loved those. I loved the kimchi too. I didn't use fish sauce or anything hard to find, I just made due with stuff I had. I also found some kombucha tea. The stuff Robin had been talking about. I drank half a bottle Saturday. Sunday morning I didn't have to take allergy medicine. I was like wow that is the first day in months that I haven't taken it. Since I started taking those chlortabs for my allergies I have not had any of those horrible attacks where I sneeze all day that left my face swollen. Then it hit me since I started taking that allergy medicine I have also gained 20 pounds. talk about gobsmacked! I started taking it in December and in January a strange 5 lb gain came on me. reddarin even asked if I was on any different meds. I knew I was using this great new allergy medicine that was working so well, I wasn't even taking it every day back then. By February my sister was in town with her big old dog that sends my allergies over the top so I was taking it daily, and viola! NO Allergy attacks, which was amazing! Except all the while I was getting fatter and fatter.
Ok still not ready to throw those pills in the trash BUT they are going in the back of the cabinet for utter and intense emergencies. The hoping the fermented foods help my allergies. I am having the same problem as bunnie right now. I cannot find any little cucumbers. Yesterday I made fermented salsa and lemonade. They are brewing till tomorrow. The kombucha will be trickier and man at $4.50 for a 16 Oz bottle I will have to make my own.
Now I at least feel a little hopeful that I am back on the right track and hopefully stop gaining.

Allergies are the worst. Wish I had a magic wand to wave over you. When I started taking thyroid medicine my allergy reactions stopped. It wasn't an intended side effect. I found out it was often a side effect from my doc when I mentioned it to her. I've stopped taking the thyroid medicine now and still the allergy reactions have not returned in the 3-4 months since I stopped taking them. I stopped taking them because I was experimenting with feeling better. With the Mom situation, the winter, and other things, really too many variables to be able to say I feel better because I stopped taking thyroid. I do know I do not feel worse.

I did get on the scale this morning. 132.2. I did have a successful day of not eating too much yesterday. Yea! I could call it plodding along but I think I will call it a casual stroll. I like that description instead.

So glad you figured it out! I've been sneezing the last few days but my allergies have not been too bad. I take benadryl at night when allergies flare up, both to help me sleep and because symptoms are usually worse overnight.

I realized this morning that I've been neglecting to take magnesium lately. I just took a 500 mg gel cap with my other vitamins, hopefully it is not too high a dose. At least I will be home if it has any unpleasant side effects. I had eggs cooked in butter and olive oil for breakfast, along with coffee and half&half. I do so much better at sticking to healthy eating when I have breakfast with a decent amount of protein.

For magnesium, I use Nature's Calm drinking some every evening before bed. I mostly drink it for bone health.

I was using Source Natural's Magnesium Serene, which is a lot like Natural Calm, but sometimes I don't feel like drinking it. I'm feeling better today and did okay food-wise. Breakfast - scrambled eggs, coffee with half & half Snack - gelatin and mascarpone cheese Dinner - LC pepperoni pizza, baby spinach with olive oil & vinegar My rooommate was using the kitchen all afternoon and I didn't get to eat lunch. I almost went out for a burger, but it was raining like crazy. I ended up eating half the pizza for dinner because I was so hungry. Had way too much dairy today but at least I stayed low carb. Once I get back in the swing of eating LC, I'm going to try dropping dairy. It's one of the suggestions Ross makes in the Diet Cure - people may be allergic or have food sensitivities to the very things they crave.

I gave the pizza recipe you linked to a look, Bunnliee. Next time I have someone to share it with, I am going to make it. Mom's lactose intolerant so I am not going to sharing that with her. Ha!
Another day of eating a more appropriate amount of food. A good thing.

Giving up those allergy pills is going to be harder than I expected. It sure is nice not to sneeze and have itchy eyes and nose all day, I even had trouble sleeping. I did notice I had more energy yesterday, maybe that is from not taking the pills a few days. I went and got some more of the Kombucha tea. That did help. I drank a little yesterday. I woke up during the night sneezing and had a little more. This morning my allergies are way better than yesterday and am less groggy and tired.

Wow, Cheryl, I am so sorry that your allergy meds have been causing your weight gain. But so glad that you figured it out! I have allergies too, and not just seasonal because I'm allergic to dogs and I have three of them. It definitely gets worse this time of year, though, when mulberry pollen is high, and in the late winter when juniper is high, and in the late summer when ragweed/chamisa is high. Uggh. I've tried all of the "natural" remedies I've ever heard of, and none of them helped me. So I use flonase, claritin, and benadryl. Yes, all three.
I used to make homemade kimchi, salsa, pickles and such years ago, but I haven't done it in ages. I really need to start again, because that stuff is good and also helps a lot with my digestive problems.
KewlKat, congrats on your new low low!

I had a rough day on Sunday, after my big cheat on Saturday. That's one of the MANY reasons that I should know by now not to cheat: I can't cheat just once!!! So I don't know my carb grams for that day, but I would guess around 100-110. Exercise - I did barre work at home on Sunday and went for a run yesterday, so that's been good at least. Today I'm going to go to Body Pump class at my gym. It's been ages since I went, and it's a pretty tough class, so I know I am going to be embarrassed because I won't be able to do all of the exercises, and then painfully sore for the rest of the week from even doing what I am able to do. But I've just got to make myself do it anyway. I miss the way I looked and felt when I was doing it regularly. So I'm going to make myself just suck it up and DO IT. Diet yesterday was better at 41c/83p/171f, but I'd like for that carb number to be even lower today. Weight still creeping up from my carb extravaganza on Sat/Sun. It was 135.0 on Monday and 136.6 this morning.
