I'm with Lavalily.....found you from our Sparkpeople Keto group. Very glad to find you! I'm Kristin. Been LC for several years, gluten-free for nearly three years. I go in and out of ketosis...mostly b/c everyone in my life - in person and on-line - are very uneducated about NK and I find it a lonely world. I feel better and am a much happier person when I follow NK though. I am very happy to have found this forum. I have about 25 lbs to lose right now.... Welcome Glad you found us. I love it here. It really does help to have support from other NKers. Jump on in and join us on the main thread.

This time I plan to stick with the Low Carb/Moderate Protein/High Fat plan because I know it works and I feel the best. The hardest part for me will be to 1) avoid looking at the calorie count and 2) getting enough fiber. I'm happy to have found this forum for the support. I did add in flax meal and it really helped me with TOM issues. o more PMS. I used to keep my carbs a little lower. I thought it was a little hard to get in flax and have some veggies while trying to stay around 20 to 25 g carbs. The carbs just add up so fast. 2 Tbsps of ground flax has 4 grams of carbs. But, if you don't regularly eat flax and decide to give it a try go slow. @bunniee and me both made ourselves a bit miserable adding flax to quickly.

I have already been using flax in salads and soups, so I don't think it will be a problem to add more. I no longer have TOM or PMS! (Thank God!) I had a surgical menopause at age 37! At least I don't have that to worry about! But menopause does have its own set of weight problems.

Please do introduce yourself and, if you like, something about yourself and your weight loss journey Hello my name is Silvia, I live in Cancun México. I lost weight with hcg diet and maintained it with low carb diet. Yesterday I finished my last round of hcg and today I began stabilization phase which is like Atkins diet and I am planning to continue with a low carb life style. My actual weight is 68 kg, around 151 lbs and would like to lose another 11 lbs. I bought the art and science of low carb diet book and the other one about performance and exercise too, I also bought a bouncy of Atkins diet books and cook books. I am a little confused and I would really appreciate your help. I am planning to begin with 50gr or less carbs and exercise at least one hour of spinning 5 days a week. As I will exercise at 7 am, what should I eat before? A whey protein shake zero carb with 1 cup of coconut unsweetened milk and 1/2 cup of strawberries would be ok for those 5 days of exercising? I am not pretty sure about how to distribute my calorie, protein and fat intake so I made some menus with 50 or less carbs, but I do not know if the fat is enough and the protein is moderate. Could you tell me if I am ok? I can not find anything to measure ketosis at the drugstore. An example of my menu is: That shake before the spinning lesson. (5 gr carbs) plus I scoop of vitamins (2carbs) Breakfast: 2 eggs, 2 bacon slices. (1carb) 1 cup of asparagus, 1 oz onion, 1 cup Of mushrooms (6carbs) Coffee with 2 tablespoon of half and half. (1carb) Snack: 7 oz of cucumber, 100 gr tuna, 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, salt, pepper, mustard (3carbs) Lunch: 5 oz chicken breast 1/2 avocado, 3 cups romaine lettuce, 1 cup zucchini, 1 tablespoon of lime juice (7 carbs) Snack: 50 pistachios. (5 carbs) Dinner: 1 pound eggplant, 1 medium tomato, 1 oz onion, (17 carbs) 2 tablespoon olive oil 5oz ground sirloin 2oz mozzarella cheese (2 carbs) 1888 calories 50 gr carbs Is that too much of something? The app I have only says about calories and grams of food but not percentages. Thank you for your help Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Welcome silvia Glad you joined us. reddarin is our expert go to guy. He can be a huge help. I will try to tell ya what I know. The most simple way to look at NK is to keep carbs under 50g a day, eat at your target protein level and fill the rest of your calories in with fat. I believe if your goal weight is 140 you target for protein would be between 64 and 95 grams a day. You do not really have to worry about percentages. Not sure where your menu is on protein grams but it looks great, you could just tweak it to get your protein in the right range. You might want to start with protein on the higher side and then if you find you are not losing you can drop it down a bit. I do not measure Ketosis but several other people do. You may want to post your questions over on the main thread where everyone kind hangs out. nkevolution.freeforums.net/thread/162/nk-march-2014-version?page=11

Hello clueless I lost 23 kgs I still would like to lose 5 kgs bit I wasn't losing with hcg anymore maybe because I do not have more abnormal fat.
The 3rd phase of hcg to stabilize weight consists in eat everything but sugar and starches. I am eating a low carb diet
But I have doubts about the diet excercise, calorie intake, protein intake, fat intake etc...

Thanks clueless I feel happy but worried because I really want to lose those last 11 pounds and I am figuring out how to do it if I want to have a low carb life style. It is really so much information...I just noticed that when dr phi net said 50 carbs per day he is not talking about net carbs?

How long have you been on NK now? Are maintaining pretty well so far?

Hello my name is Silvia, I live in Cancun México. Hi Silvia welcome to our forum Your menu looks okay to me. What were the grams for fat/protein/carbs? How tall are you and what is your age? Any health conditions? Is everyone in the house going LC with you? You should look into making homemade mayonnaise. Store bought mayo is usually made with very low quality oil (typically with polyunsaturated oils) and if you make it at home you control the oil and there'll be no preservatives. I'd swap the half and half for heavy whipping cream to avoid the milk sugars in half and half. It taste better too. "As I will exercise at 7 am, what should I eat before?" Actually, there is no need to eat anything before your exercise and lots of benefits to eating in a fasted state. *If* your blood sugar regulation is working correctly. If it isn't then you'll know because you'll get dizzy or feel some minor to serious physical effects that'll let you know but try fasted. Wait about 45 minutes to an hour after working out to eat. That will give your body time to return to normal from the spike in inflammation caused by the stress of working out. Your shake or your bacon and egg breakfast is fine post-workout. Another thing you need to internalize: Exercise is for health *NOT* weight loss or maintenance. Don't allow yourself to think of exercise in terms of weight. Ever. Proper exercise has a lot of health benefits but weight control isn't one of them. 5 days a week for an hour a day is an aggressive schedule. Is this something you are just starting or something you've already been doing for a while? Or maybe you are increasing from what you are already doing?

Actually I just began exercising again a I left it when I got pregnant 1.5 years ago and then lay august I began with hcg diet so today was my second day exercising haha
I haven't eaten any starch or sugar since I began hcg and I decided I won't eat that anymore that is why I found out the books I have read including art and science of low carb diet and many others so I believe ketogenic diet is awesome but I can not find the way to create a correct menu :/

Well, duh! Forgive an "oopsie" from a newbie! I posted an intro in the general forum, and it doesn't seem like a good waste of storage space to repost the whole thing here. Smack me at your leisure! hehe

Hello clueless! I take magnesium, too. Along with a bunch of other supplements. I take Mg malate, which is the form I think Jack Kruse recommends. (?) It did give me some pretty intense "side effects" at first, so I had to reduce it and slowly increase the dose. I'm taking 800 mg per day now. One thing which helped me was to find a balance with an iron supplement. Iron can be constipating (sorry- TMI!), but if you get it balanced with the Mg, it seems to have a "net-zero" effect, so far as GI function. I take 65 mg per day of the iron.
This isn't really a discussion topic for the Intro thread tho! Maybe someone would be interested in starting a general "supplements" thread out on the general forum.

Hello all! My name is Danielle and I'm a 27 year old wife and mother of 4. I found out about this WOE by searching vitamin c and weight loss in google, which took me to LCF forum. I'm a member of FatSecret and joined the group there where I saw a link to this forum. I have been overweight for many years, and every single year I promise myself this is gonna be the year that I lose the weight and health problems (high blood pressure). My starting weight is 227.8 and my goal is 140 with 20% BF. I know I can do it, I just need to discipline myself, and hold myself accountable. I will be posting on this forum a lot to hold myself accountable .

Welcome Danielle! So great to have you. This group is small, but VERY supportive and helpful. I hope that you will enjoy it here.
I realized that I never posted in this intro thread, so I will just briefly say that I am a 40yo wife, and mom of a wonderful teenage daughter whom I homeschool. I was having some minor-but-worsening health problems which prompted me to start LCHF. Now I'm much better and about 18 pounds lighter. Good times!
