Glad I was at Mom's so that I wasn't tempted to weigh. I have this gigantic writing project (which seems to get bigger each day). I would write, get sleepy, lay down for a bit, cycle back 'round to not sleeping and get up and go at it again. I know poor sleep equals unhappy scale numbers. The sun is out and shining brightly. Yea! We're heading to a high in the low 60s. This makes me happy.
Easy to see that Darin kinda held this place together. We hope to hear from you soon. Pam

Yep poor sleep doesn't agree with my scale for sure. We are getting some sleet and freezing rain here again. School went but getting the kids home is looking a little messy.
Yep looks kinda dead around here lately. Hope Darin will feel like joining us soon.

Hi all - had a busy weekend. Sad to see no post from Darin but figure he needs some time if things didn't go so great with his little guy but still hoping for the best! I've pretty much stayed off the scale so not sure on the WI. Was like 189 at one point over the weekend. Sat we got our meat from a local butcher from a local cow, don't know much about it but hopefully it's a good healthy cow our new deep freeze is now FULL of meat. we also picked up a little $10 grill and had a small bbq this weekend; food was AWESOME. we took the kids to a movie yesterday and when we got home found that my mother got really sick and taken to the ER. I was just there that morning so was confused but guess the shots they are giving her in the abdomen weren't being done too cleanly and she got an infection and it got in her blood and she was 103 fever and admitted over night - her infection already down (could tell from the skin looking MUCH better today) so had a late night at the hospital then had to get some stuff done for work, planned to work on it like 630-8 but was at the ER so didn't work on it until 11-1230 and it was hard to get up this morning but overall did ok... took my son to school 730a and went to get my mom's stuff from nursing home that she likes to have w/ her and took to her at the hospital and good timing cuz the doc stopped by and filled me in. stopped and had breakfast at the cafeteria - scrambled eggs with bacon and 2 pc of saus it was good stuff. was going to begin cutting dairy today then got to work and got me a HOT decaff cuz it's FREEZING out and filled up with HWC...hmmm, duh, that wasn't my plan LOL so baby steps...no more dairy today. water water water. fat fat fat and some protein lol... going to grab a salad with ranch (darn SOY!!!! that has to be a focus next to go!) for lunch. not counting/measuring today but should be well under 50g total carb - will have meat with green veg for dinner. also planning to go to bed at 10p every night that i can this week. rest rest rest did some weight training yesterday and felt great and sore today lol so musta been a good one. did a whopping 3 deadlifts with 40 lb dumb bells and wow, my legs are SORE! i really like dead lifting did a bunch of squats and some walking on the treadmill ok, done rambling for today LOL, back to work! trying to work on breathing deeply and minimizing stress!

RoBiN <3 glad your mom's infection is responding quickly. Those things are awful in hospitals and nursing homes. Wooohooo 3 deadlifts at 40lbs dumbbells :eek:is that 2 X 40 lbs?? How are you liking your treadmill? Yes, so glad she is doing SO much better today! Sounds like discharging tomorrow so that's good news. Yeah I had 2 40 pounders so I was stoked! I'm feeling it BIG time today! Also did some squats with the 45lb barbell on my back and did 45 lb benchpress yay. LOVE LOVE LOVE our new treadmill! So NICE! Quiet and solid feeling. WAY better than our last one. This one has buttons on the side for speed so I can hit the 8 mph, go hard for 30 seconds then hit the 3 for a minute (or 2...or 3 LOL) then boom 8 again. It got cold here again so planning to hop on tonight for a nice walk since legs are so sore, not sure I can do hiit and can't get a nice dog walk in since getting home later this eve and it's COLD brrrrr! So, got my ketone meter...not ready to test yet even tho I was so stoked to get it. Gave up caff again today (had a few times where I just didn't care lately...) and was going to work on cutting dairy. Read that it can cause inflammation for those with hashimotos disease so surely it won't kill me to give it up...then got to work, got my decaff and filled with HWC lol...oops so baby steps, right!? no cheese today i had eggs/sausage and bacon at the hospital cafeteria so no weighing/measuring...thought about giving that a try this week...it kinda stresses me out and working to cut stress. if i just eat right and follow the plan that i make i should be fine...also not trying to IF since maybe that can cause stress on my thyroid too...idk but fasted on accident today...had my breakfast like 9 and coffee like 10...then haven't eaten since, so kinda skipped lunch. Put in some estimates on my MFP but thinking about not doing MFP this week...but strict keto. have lots of meat to cook/eat and just need to pick up a few avo's...with the MCT and eggs for breakfast i think i will be set! so yeah...also committing to hitting the pillow at 10p when i can...not forcing myself to stay up late and watch tv all night for "me" time lol...my "me" time will be resting! watched one of stephs vids today and she said if you don't like your life then change it. i was like oh yeah...hmmm...if i start making some changes maybe i will like the outcome a little more! so sleep...less stress overall including calorie counting etc...eat for keto and keto only - stop eating all the processed junk...surely i will feel better and things should fall into place!!! ok i'm done rambling LOL, about to head home for the eve going to swing by and visit my mom with my kiddo then home have a good night everyone!!

I love that Robin. If ya don't like your life CHANGE IT! Simple but true. So many times we just make excuses why we can't. But the truth is we can do it if we decide to. Your post is so inspiring to me. LORD 8 on the treadmill. Woah baby lo,, you rock. I would fall on my face. You sound so stoked and I can tell you are working hard to think positive. Hooray for committing to get to bed by 10pm and get some good sleep. And wow to the 80lb dead lifts.

Hey Cheryl, it is swinging back down for you. Yea!
Yesterday ended up being an IF day. Couple eggs mid morning. Then I ate a hamburger...with the bun! I don't remember the last time I did that. I felt guilty and enjoyed it at the same time. Really, if I am going to eat it, I should enjoy it all together. That was about midday. I haven't had a thing to eat since. Not punishing myself, merely not hungry and not looking at food to fulfill something other need either. Don't have a plan for food today though I will surely eat some. Ha!

Hi Darin, I would ask how things are going, but I've read this thread and see your dog is ailing. Hope that works out.
I haven't been here in a long time. I have stayed in ketosis though. Well, these days I am eating a lot more protein so about 10% of the mornings I am below 0.5mM BHB on my Novamax Plus. But I usually am above 1.5mM by late afternoon.
I also continue to do Wendler 5/3/1. 303, 245, 320lbs for my best single rep maximums for squat, bench press and deadlift, respectively.
A couple of topics:
Has anyone tried "oil pulling"? I heard about it on a podcast called "Get up on this". You take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth (after it melts) for 20minutes once a day. Even though I don't swallow it I can feel the effects of the short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the coconut oil. I actually had to stop adding coconut oil to my coffee -- the effects were too strong. Anyway it is supposed to keep your teeth clean. So I thought I'd try it for 6months and see what my Dental Hygienist says at the next appointment.
Second, after 1.5 years in ketosis, I decided to stop supplementing sodium. I had been drinking 1-2 cups of chicken bullion broth per day. Turns out I don't need it any more. Guess my body has adapted to a very low carb diet.

Hello all. It looks like most of you had a good weekend and a good week so far. That is awesome! Weekend went rough for me. No drama, no problems, just lazy eating. But today is a new day, right! Read “Divergent” on Saturday. Yes. All of it on Saturday. Good book. Looking forward to the movie (opens this coming weekend) but probably won’t go until my DD finishes reading the book. Work and home life are going well (knocks wood) TMI WARNING! Went bra shopping and apparently I’ve surpassed my old cup size. My old bras had just stretched out. “F” is for “gotta get this Fucking weight off”. No wonder my back hurts. Leaving work early for a Cub Scout field trip to a news station then to the store. We are out of most food including any meat and eggs. Thinking of “breakfast” for dinner. Happy Tuesday!

Phillip, do you read Peter Attia's blog? Your statement about not doing sodium anymore made me think of his most recent post. He doesn't discuss oil pulling...but he mentions changing his way of eating some after four years in ketosis. It's his latest one: What I eat part III currently at the top of the page. I love following/reading his blog. He only writes about once a month now but they are always super. eatingacademy.com/Pam

I did end up not eating the rest of the day after the hamburger. Today I ate odd things. Couple eggs in coconut oil. An ounce or so of clotted cream, smoked almonds of about the same amount. Big salad at Mom's. A glass of wine at a reception, some cheese and a couple of thin slices of apple. No desire for the crackers and the like that were at the reception. We had beautiful weather today, the kind if I'd had the time I'd have been outside pulling a few weeds. Still no time for that. Soon though.

I love following/reading his blog. He only writes about once a month now but they are always super. eatingacademy.com/Pam Hi Pam, Interesting. Yes, I do read Attia's blog. But I had not read this one until now. I found this one disquieting, actually. Pretty hard to live your life being an avatar of a particular diet though, I guess. In a sense, I pretty much did the same thing he did. About 9 months ago I just felt like I lacked energy during my intense StrongLifts workouts. I tried eating coconut oil prior to workout to give me some extra energy. That worked to some extent, but I really felt like I was stalling out due to what I'll call the very low growth factor status of deep ketosis. People in the StrongLifts forum would generally suggest adding carbs on workout days -- basically doing a cyclic ketogenic diet, rather than a total ketogenic diet. I didn't want to go that far, so I started eating a big salad for lunch 5 days a week. I did notice an increase in energy, probably the result of higher glycogen reserves. Now I've backed off the salads and am heavy into protein -- mainly eggs. To tell you the truth, I still think being in "mild" ketosis is slowing my progress. But I'm trying to take the long view. Everyone tops out somewhere. So what if it takes me 5 years to do that, rather than 2 years? The Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) stats he gave were shocking. I hadn't realized that it was a big public health problem. From what I've read in the other "Peter" blog, "Hyperlipid", high fructose corn syrup alone isn't enough to cause NAFLD in model animal systems. You also need polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Typically fish oil is used, but I suspect fish oil isn't the culprit. It's the omega-6 PUFAs from vegetable oils that are probably playing that role. (Presuming there aren't other factors in play.) -- Phillip

Got on the scale, prob should not have but yeah. WI was 190. blah. Yesterday started out great but then splurged with carb smart and hershey SF caramel choc's - bad move. ketone meter .4 this morning. But that's ok! Shaking it off. Today had grilled steak, organic avo, a pickle (adding fermented foods, picked these up at nat groc) and MCT oil with water water water. Eating clean today, Thurs and Fri and will re-test Sat morning, no WI tho...don't need to see that # on the scale taunting me.
Did some reading yesterday on hashimoto's and yeah...guess dairy and eggs are out...kinda stressed me out but then decided it shouldn't. I'm good at cutting things I know are damaging to my health. Good bye soy and gluten. I will NOT eat the packaged LC bars...most have the soy lec in them...bad news for my thyroid. I'm going to be more prepared and if I can't then I can supplement with MCT oil. From what I read I should also eliminate peanuts and almonds and had NO idea about brocc and cauli...crazy!
Well, hope you all have a beautiful day!

Happy Wednesday everyone!!
Yesterday's numbers Cals 1390 Fat 106.28 Carbs 35.28 prot 77.53
B- diet coke & Atkins bar L- Salad bar D- eggs & bacon S- cottage cheese, P3, almonds
No WI
Back on track. Didn't have time for usual coffee so was really hungry by the time I got to work. The bar was the last of an old stash. They aren't worth it when counting total carbs! I felt really snack-y all day. Glad I had good stuff at work. I have found I really can't afford to snack on anything NOT high in protein. Getting to my 100g ideal protein level is my hardest task. I feel really good on the days I make it.
Today I have my nummy coffee with HWC & CO today. I so love my "diet" coffee. TeeHee!
Considering a fat fast. Probably won't happen today because I haven't prepared anything.

We had 2 pretty days and I soaked in all the sun I could. I swear the vitamin d pills just don't feel like they do a thing for me but the sun does. I even got a little pink the second day so hopefully that is holding me over till the sun comes back our way.

Ya know, considering you have thyroid issues you are doing amazingly well. And you are still maintaining a huge weight loss even though you are not as low as you would like to be. Hashimoto's makes weight loss a serious challenge.

Yeah...thyroid. Ugg. I'm not sure how long I can cut dairy and eggs...I already miss them and it's only been hours since I said I would cut them out! I'm starving for a coffee with heavy cream. Going to pick up a tea and coconut milk to try and feel less restricted. I feel like I can't lose weight to save my life so for now focusing on nutrition and working to make sure i'm in ketosis...cutting the junky extras I love to eat...has to help, right!? and yeah fat fasts are HARD.

I was able to do a fat fast for 3 days last fall. I prepped the whole thing and had a schedule. No way I could maintain for longer and if I remember right I had "bowel problems" including cramps by the 3rd evening. So maybe just 2 days.
or
What is the egg/ meat diet. D'uh it's eating eggs and meat only but what other restrictions? Cals, times, etc?
Basically looking for a kick start to MENTALLY and physically focus on my WOE.

Meat and egg is easier than a fat fast. You can add HWC, CO, mayo and butter too. Meat and egg help curb your appetite some too. I am trying to keep my protein under 80 grams while I am doing M/E. I could easily overdo protein so that is why I am keeping an eye on it. Becky used to really drop weight on M/E. Some say the more eggs the better. Higher fat meats seem to be better too. Some people don't do any processed meats like bacon while on meat and eggs but others do.

That sounds more "do-able" for me. I might actually meet my protein goal.
