I've decided to give alternate day fasting a try along with low carb, to kickstart weightloss in the new year. The plan I'm using calls for eating 20-30% of normal calories on down days, and eating above BMR on up days. Over the last year, I have learned that I don't lose weight even on NK unless my average daily calories are under 1500. It's gotten kind of tiresome to be honest, and I feel the need to shake things up a bit without going off low carb. Alternate day fasting is more appealing to me right now than the 16/8 method of IF. Yesterday was my first down day and I ended up at 400 calories, with over half coming from protein. I'm aiming for 1800 calories and 100 g protein today.

Will be interesting and interested in hearing how that works for you. With what's going on around here with Mom, my main targets are staying in NK (which means controlling emotional eating); and working in some form of energy exertion more days of the week than non. A few minutes of anything is all I am after at the moment. I gave myself the weekend off from that, not in a planned way. We had some excitement here and I chose not to do it--and ignored the "I oughts" and "I am bad because I didn't" thoughts though they came. Weight loss would be fab but I don't have the mental energy to add anything more than I am doing at the moment.

Hey Robin, I learned a technique long ago that you might find to be of help in certain situations. A friend showed me this once. It is how she handles her mom's negative talk. When my friend knew it was the right time (could be right away); she smiled at her mom with love and changed the subject. No chastising her mom, no making faces, none of that. And she would do that repeatedly as needed. EDIT: Then as needed, my friend would get alone, scream into a pillow or bang her head against a wall. Less of that reaction, I find in myself, the more I use the technique. That is GREAT advice and I did find myself trying to say things like well, it's her life and if she's happy, let's be happy for her and tried to keep my voice calm but could feel it rising with frustration so yeah, I had to change the subject for fear I was going to scream - but after I think about this it def helped, but now going into the nursing home I will pep-talk myself up for this and be prepared! I refuse to let her bring me down! Hey Robin, I learned a technique long ago that you might find to be of help in certain situations. A friend showed me this once. EDIT: Then as needed, my friend would get alone, scream into a pillow or bang her head against a wall. Less of that reaction, I find in myself, the more I use the technique. *That* is an excellent technique and it works like a charm. My addendum is change the subject to something of direct interest to the other person. I'm not judging but usually that means something about that person or something that impacts that person or something that that person has talked about before... see the pattern? *That* is an excellent technique and it works like a charm. My addendum is change the subject to something of direct interest to the other person. I'm not judging but usually that means something about that person or something that impacts that person or something that that person has talked about before... see the pattern? Hmmmmm. The reason I said "I am not judging" is because I think negative people are narcissistic - I am not judging your Mom, Robin. That is why changing the subject the way I described works so well. It isn't about normal conversation in those situations. I am not being judgmental because we are all like that to some degree when we feel negative. With her situation it is very understandable that it'd be ramped up to a high level. Yes, that all makes total sense! She does like to talk about herself LOL but even then so negative - she's always been a Debbie Downer on roids and our relationship has gotten worse over the last few years as a result because I just haven't wanted to be around her. She will bring up any negative depressing topic she can think of, the economy, the government, my finances, my relationship, my man's kids, blah blah, it's like, ok, seriously, get over it. If she ever said anything positive I think I would faint. It's unbearable pretty much 99% of the time and yeah, her condition just makes even worse...knowing it's an attitude that will NEVER allow her to be successful frustrates me to the max because I know she's 67, set in her negative ways...and I just want her to try and find ONE thing nice to say, that's when I get frustrated and it impacts my demeanor, mood and thoughts and I really really don't want that to happen. I want to be happy! I know there's a lot of bad stuff in the world but that doesn't mean I have to sit around and mope about it all day! RoBiN <3, I am very sorry your Mother isn’t dealing with her depression well. That sucks too. Thank you! I appreciate everyone's kind thoughts! It really does help

No WI today...didn't stay too on track w/ foods this weekend, stuck in the house due to very nasty/cold weather with 3 kids and my guy...was able to get into work today, YAAAAY! He stayed home with the 3 kids, YAAAAAAY! The car said -9 this morning but worth braving the cold to get out of the house for the day LOL! Terrible, LOL I'm thinking about signing up for my work's biggest loser competition again this year...trying to see it as some extra motivation to stay on track and a boost in the right direction We'll see...I have a week I think to decide. Anyway, started my morning with 4 oz HH and some SF vanilla syrup (says 0 carb, it betta be, found at our local Deals Dollar Store, woo! SOOO much cheaper than wal-marts stuff!). I have private select hard salami and boarshead colby jack cheese to eat on when I get hungrier...super busy at work so kinda stressed and just need to plow through the work so that should help keep me from eating mindlessly Hope you all have a GREAT Monday!!

My post HIT bump feels like a doosie today, 153.2. Yeow. Do you feel like you really pushed yourself (a good thing) with HIT yesterday Cheryl? Isn't it weird how we have the opposite next-day reaction to HIT? You tend to bounce and I tend to go down then bounce like two days later.

I think combining it with LC/NK is the best possible way to do it too.

OMG! This morning I discovered a wart on my left ankle right on the ankle bone. Although I was mortified in a Hitchcockian shower scene sort of way for an unguyly amount of time, I know how to get rid of it *and* this has always been a sign, over the last couple of years of LC, that I've shed some long held fat cell debris.
The cure is organic Apple Cider Vinegar. I just apply it at full strength with a q-tip a couple of times a day and it usually does the job after three or four days.
Ugh.

Congratulations on shedding that unneeded and unwanted business. It is cool that you figured out what was going on and that the fix to be unwartly is easy.

I think I pushed it really hard and man my shoulders were feeling it when I woke up today. I looked at my calendar and I am on day 18 of my cycle, I have been bumping on days 18 or 20. In November I bumper 4.6 pounds on day 19. So, hopefully it is a big bump from HIT and TOM. Lordy I hope it whooshes off quick. I told DH if this keeps up I will need to but some new jeans. I almost had to have assistance to get these on.

I was a little wary of trying JUDDD again, but I think doing it low carb will make a big difference. The first time I tried alternate day fasting was a couple years ago, and I had to quit because I struggled with eating too much or not enough on up days. I wasn't eating low carb at the time and was under a lot of stress at work.
I don't have to track on up days but I did today just to make sure I was eating enough.
Monday's log - 1840 calories, 107 g protein, 137 g fat, 40 g carbs.
Breakfast - scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, and sausage. Coffee with hwc.
Lunch - bunless cheeseburger with pickles, lettuce, and onion
Snack - dark chocolate
Dinner - rotel dip and pork rinds

It was like Canadian summer! My roommate told me Tiny Cat positioned herself under the vent to feel the warm air from the heater. She's a shorthair cat and her coat is not too thick. Maybe I should get her a sweater.

Cold for us in my part of Texas, too. Barely got to 32 today. Another night in the low 20s tonight. Thankfully it's supposed to get in the 40s tomorrow and keep going up each day til the weekend topping out near 70. Ahhhhh....

I've seen pictures of cats in sweaters, but who knows if the person putting it on the cat survived. Tiny Cat is young enough that she might tolerate it, but is also super wiggly.

BK 2.8 Up super early (4:30). Took reading mid morning (10:45) after coffee/coconut oil--which was much earlier, some steak between 8 and 9, cheese/sausage bits between 9:30 and 10:15. All good.
