Weigh-in this morning ... 188.1 no change Low calories and no loss, higher calories and you lose, mind boggling :thinking:but pretty cool! heh did ya notice that??? Here is something else. I got up to go to the bathroom about 3 hours before I'd set my alarm and I weighed myself because I was really curious if I was gonna see a nice drop at the normal weigh-in time. Ready??? It was 194.5. I do that every now and then and sometimes it is like that and sometimes it is closer to the previous morning's weigh-in. Yesterday I couldn't figure out what to eat for dinner so I thought heck with it and just let it go ending up with the ~2000 calories. Even though I know better than most people I was still hoping to see a big drop lol.

It occurred to me just now that maybe the leptin reset I was doing a couple weeks ago actually worked, and that is why I'm seeing new losses on the scale & measuring tape. I'm going to try to get back to eating a higher protein breakfast. Even if it doesn't help with fat loss, I felt better getting at least 30 g protein in the morning.

Good Morning everyone! No changes! After re-reading all the posts I don't think I'm eating enough! Although I always feel sated, and sometimes have to make myself eat. Today I will try to eat more and see what happens...........I have to say I feel so much better, no heartburn, no "gas" and my joint pain (especially in my hands ) is soooooooooo much better. I've also had rosacea for a couple of years and had become really disheartened......BUT I noticed this morning how much clearer, and dare I say, quite beautiful my skin has become!!!!! 'Hope you all have a lovely day ! Congrats for all those great losses! Hugs! Wonderful NSVs!

woo! had a really great time at Jazz class this morning. did like 1.75 classes. had to head out before the end of 2nd class to pick up my SO's kiddos since he's at work till noon. i was drenched after class, my hair was SOAKED wet and dripping...somewhat embarrassing LoL but that's ok - it was a crazy/intense workout! i killed it.
i've eaten quite a bit today since i did so much cardio i want to stay on top of my hunger. here's where i am at so far:
fat 158 protein 43 carbs 14
part of that was 3tsp of beef broth. i'm really liking the sea salt i bought - sooo yum.

Robin, I notice that when I stay on top of my salt intake I seem to lose better and feel better. I have gotten lazy a few times and skipped it for days and I don't seem to do as well.

www.reddit.com/r/ketoYayyyy, reddit. I could spend all night reading some of these threads LOL.. occasionally come across a good recipe too! I've never heard of this site and been checking it out - really liking it. Came across this info about sugar alcohols: Sugar Alcohols — technically called polyols — are carbohydrates that we do not completely absorb. Of the eight sugar alcohols tested for their glycemic index, the most common ones are sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, and maltitol. If the sugar alcohols had no impact on our blood glucose, they would have a glycemic index of zero. Only two of the sugar alcohols have a GI of zero, according to Livesey’s research. These are mannitol and erythritol. Several others have a very low GI, but two maltitol syrups have a GI greater than 50. This is a higher GI value than that of spaghetti, orange juice, or carrots. They provide a chart showing each Polyol and it's GI (glucose=100) and calories/g. I never realized any of this so found it really interesting. Curious if you all subtract sugar alcohol from carb counts or if you just don't consume? oops forgot to post link: www.mendosa.com/netcarbs.htm

I'm hoping the salt does help. My weight isn't going down even a bit. I'm still over 176 trying to just ignore the scale. Day 9 of no cream cheese and even made my SO a batch of cream cheese egg pancakes last night and didn't have any so that scale can kiss my butt so frustrating sometimes because I know better than to go back to low cal but it's hard sometimes not to feel discouraged. Just going to keep plugging along

My daughter's best friend likes omelettes made out of egg whites only. But I always like it when she comes over for a sleepover, because I eat all the yolks from her eggs, without feeling like I've wasted (rather expensive) food! Maybe I could start feeding the whites to my whippet, though. She's getting older, and having trouble keeping her weight up. People keep telling me to feed her more protein, so maybe that would work.

Curious if you all subtract sugar alcohol from carb counts or if you just don't consume? I noticed that I gained weight when eating some candies made with maltitol, even when I kept the amount of them moderated enough that they didn't mess up my digestion (which really results in very small portions!). So I decided they must be bad news. The Monin sugar-free syrups, which I use to make ice cream, use erythritol, and that doesn't seem to bother me at all. Other than that, though, I mostly use stevia or saccharin to sweeten my iced tea, and occasionally bake a desert using splenda, and that's about it. Thanks, that was interesting! I wish the article had talked a little more about fiber on low-carb, though. I still wish I better understood why we count/limit fiber on NK when most other low-carbers don't. It's not that I mind, I don't like what high-fiber foods do to my digestion anyway. It just bugs me when I don't understand. If fiber passes through your digestive tract without ever making it into your bloodstream, then how can it affect your kidneys in any way?

LOL Gretalyn, from what I have seen of whippets, they need all the food they can get. Is yours super skinny? Yes! Even when she was young and perfectly normal weight (for a whippet), people unfamiliar with the breed were always telling me she was skinny (like I hadn't noticed) and saying I should feed her more! I have always fed her ALL the food that she will eat! We have to limit our Eskie, because he would probably eat until he exploded, but she isn't like that. And now, she's getting older, and her tummy is more sensitive, and she just doesn't have the appetite she used to. So now, she's actually skinny for a whippet! And that's pretty skinny!

It is possible that Phinney/Volek do not know what the underlying mechanisms are that dictates <50g total carbs to achieve a state of NK. A lot of what we know about the human metabolism is inferred from observational data. Even closely controlled clinical trials rely on observation of effects to draw conclusions and speculate on why x produces y. I thought the distinction between low carb and nutritional ketosis that the docs presented on page 3 of the Living book was brilliant. The former being about abatement of carb intolerance symptoms and the later being about a fundamental shift in energy source.

This page is my homepage on my browser, so I never typed the address in. I just now realized its NK Evolution. I thought it was NK Revolution. I guess I'm the only one that has always felt militant about this way of eating.

I made scrambled eggs for breakfast with 3 yolks and 1 white, they were so good! It seems wasteful to throw out the egg whites; maybe I'll ask my roommate if he wants them. I let the cat out to fool around in the grass while cooking breakfast, and he came running in a few minutes later to tell me it's raining. He seemed upset that I couldn't do anything about it. He never got to venture outside before moving in here, and doesn't understand things like rain and paws getting wet. I have quite a few low carb blogs & sites bookmarked. I may start a new thread for the links so it doesn't get buried. sounds good! My cat just goes on the balcony and gives me dirty looks when it rains lol

Nah, I wear my combat boots to bed I liked Evolution because it was a nod to our long running threads and the way we discovered and adapted our approach to NK over time
