Yea Bunniee. You are becoming who you want to be!
It is 8:20 here and I've been at Mom's since 5. I did have chicken broth here that I'd made and frozen for Mom a couple of weeks ago. If I thought about it too much, I might think I am hungry but I am not going to think about it. Ha!

I haven't read very much at her blog, but really liked what I did read. My library has the book, so I think I'll read it. Roast beef and Brie sounds awesome. Wish my supermarket deli made nice items like that! Congrats on your victory over the chocolate mousse. While I was visiting my family, I did really well on my diet . . . for the first five days. Then we went to a peach orchard, and that changed things. Peaches are one of my two favorite fruits - not grocery store peaches, those are worthless. But fresh, local peaches like that are absolutely divine. I get the chance to eat them so rarely that I was completely comfortable with the thought of indulging. The problem with indulging is that it leads to more indulging. Anyway, yesterday and today I have been fully back on track. I also did a low-rep, high-weight workout today (did not exercise much while I was gone). So, feeling much better!

I woke up early this morning, and remembered I had cake in the fridge. I ate about 1/3 of the slice while cooking bacon and eggs for breakfast. I was going to wait until after I'd eaten a proper meal, then remembered something Spinardi wrote about eating the best parts first. Food is most enjoyable when we are hungry, and taste diminishes as our bodies become satisfied. Eating your favorite foods at the beginning of a meal means maximum enjoyment, without wasting a lot of calories getting to the good stuff. If I'd eaten the entire piece of cake, I would be sooo uncomfortable right now. The small portion I ate was just right, and hopefully the protein in the eggs and bacon will reduce the chance of a blood sugar crash later. I ate all of the bacon and left a few bites of scrambled egg on the plate. I'm taking chicken salad for lunch so I won't have to go out in the heat to get something. Yesterday my car was so hot when I left the training center, and I had a 45 minute drive home. I took a cool shower when I got home and drank plenty of water, but still felt a little heat exhaustion. The older I get, the less tolerant I seem to be of weather extremes.

Bunniee, I am noticing the same thing is true about my ability to handle the heat especially. I cannot imagine how people lived well pre-a/c.
Had a headache for a bit after waking. A glass of water and a couple cups of coffee later and it is gone. My plan is to not eat until the early lunch I have planned with a friend. I can change my mind at anytime if it seems the right thing to do. I've skipped a few days of DailyBurn because my Flash player needed updating so that the visual part of the sessions would play. It hadn't been a problem before so it took a few days to figure out what was happening. I think today's session is core work and I am going to skip being in my fasted state. It wouldn't hurt me; I just don't want to.
Greta, I am with you about certain things not being worth buying in a grocery store. Tomatoes is my thing. Dad grew them. Talk about a taste difference. A few hours from here peaches grow and one can get them in roadside stands at the right time of year. I don't make the pilgrimage. Glad your visit with your parents was a good one.

The older I get, the less tolerant I seem to be of weather extremes. That makes perfect sense Lisa! I love the idea of eating the best part first. I had a piece of GF cake yesterday evening. Dh and I split a piece and I put the rest away before I started to eat my little slice. If I had left it out I think I may have picked at the other piece but a few minutes after eating it we were both glad we had stopped at a small slice and not made ourselves uncomfortable. The best part was it tasted like cake instead of guilt.
I have been reading the Abcs of Allergies, Asthma and lupus. Dr Batman (Batmanghelidj) says it is all about dehydration. He says we need 8 to 10 glasses of water a day but that salt is just as important as water. He includes a laundry list of things that salt will improve. According to him salt will end a headache, asthma or allergy attack. He says to drink 1 or 2 glasses of water and then put a little salt on the end of your tongue and let it dissolve. DH had a headache last night so he tried it, his headache was gone in 10 to 15 minutes. I have stopped having those ocular migraines since I have added more salt and water. I already ate a lot of salt and now I am eating even more. Batman says you need 1/2 tsp or 3 grams(through out the day) for every 8 to 10 glasses of water you drink. If you exercise and sweat or are in hot climates you need more. He says Osteoporosis, in a major way, is the result of salt and water shortage in the body. He even says salt is vital for reducing a double chin. The salivary glands become leaky when there is a shortage of salt, the leakiness spills to areas beyond the glands causing increased bulkiness underneath the skin. Since I added salt and water my little lines around my mouth are disappearing and my finger nails are growing really fast and are very hard. He recommends unrefined sea salt as it has 80 mineral elements that the body needs. He does caution that you must drink enough water to wash any excess salt from the body, or that people with kidney disease or heart problems need to consult their doctor.

exotec I have the "MyFitnessPal" app on my iPad, and that's what I use to track my carbs, etc. I didn't choose it because it's the best one, but because our health insurance rewards us (minimally) for wearing a pedometer and using that to track our calories. So I haven't compared it to other versions. But I can tell you that it will let you customize your goals. I think the default settings were the typical high-carb, low-fat baloney, but I changed mine to low-carb, high-fat. Also, it has a TON of foods pre-programmed into it, because any time a user adds a food, it gets added to the entire database. So, most of Linda's Low Carb recipes are already in there (and since I use her website all the time, that's pretty handy). rejoicealways8 Yes, tomatoes are another food that tastes completely different home-grown than supermarket-purchased! I love my mom's garden tomatoes. But I'm too lazy to garden myself. I should really work to change that, but it's just not something I enjoy. clueless That's very interesting about the salt! The ubiquitous advice to drink more water really irritates me, because I know someone who was harmed (ended up in the hospital) from drinking so much water that she had washed too much sodium and potassium out of her body. And I've even heard stories of athletes DYING from drinking too much water. I think people have gone water crazy. But if you increase your salt intake, I think your thirst is going to naturally increase in proportion. So I could get behind that. Thanks for posting that. I'll give it a try. Which reminds me, I'm out of sea salt! Does anyone have a preferred brand? I did my first "heavy weights" workout yesterday. I've been doing lighter weights and higher reps in the form of barre and Body Pump class. But I wanted to add in a heavy weight and lower rep routine once a week. I was kind of intimidated, but I finally tried it. It was actually fun! I also did really well on my diet yesterday. So I'm feeling good, looking forward to the scale going back down, and I'm happy and energetic!

Happy Tuesday, Y'all.
Yesterday was a good day. Not great numbers but felt good.
Cals 777 Fat 44.16 Carbs 26.84 Prot 35.44
B- Coffee w/ H&H, Splenda, deluxe mixed nuts L- Chicken Caesar salad D- pot roast, LC coleslaw S- Vodka & diet tonic
Had a lovely dinner talking with Grama until 8:00 then read my new book until midnight (oops). Slept better last night than the night before. Being in a new space with new sounds and a weird bed-they have a tempurpedic type bed. I don't like it.
I'm impressed with both Lisa & Cheryl's self-control in only small portions of cake. That is where we all need to be.
Also Pam’s liquid fast-wow. I don’t know if I could. I bet it does wonders.
I'm feeling good today. Not wearing the compression socks so we'll see how much I swell during our predicted 103 deg day. After reading Cheryl's post about water and salt it makes so much more sense to do those together. I've heard about the washing away of nutrients too like Gretalyn's friend. So I'm off to the break room for the water cooler.
Have a great day!

Lunch was kind of boring but I ate it anyway because I was hungry. Sometimes food is just fuel and that is okay. I made tacos for dinner and might have more of that cake later.
I'm still logging my meals because it has become a habit and hard to break. It's interesting to see how my daily calories go up and down by eating to appetite, while not deliberately trying to restrict.
About the salt and headache relief - I've experienced this myself. The last time I had a really bad headache, it was cured by eating a pickle.

A good thing about fasting for me is that it helps disconnect the hamster in my brain that is about eating food for comfort. Oh, it isn't a total fix and also is a good place for me. I suspect that if I made it a regular habit, I would go a long way in making that hamster totally disappear.
I am up a consistent three pounds from my trip to California which helps to show me that I am eating too much food more than anything else. I may do a fat fast though not today because I have a networking lunch on tap. I could do it tomorrow or the next day. Tomorrow would be my best day because I am at my own house tomorrow night. yep. That's what I'll do.
Off to do my 15-minutes with DailyBurn.

Yesterday - kept my carbs under 30, and went for a short run. It was a good day.
I've only had time to read the introduction of "Death by Food Pyramid" so far, but it looks very promising.

I love coming here and catching up with what you guys have been up to. Lisa we have been doing that salt thing all along with the pickle juice haven't we. I didn't even think about it that way. I will try it for asthma if I ever need to. I haven't had an asthma attack since probably back in March when I was walking my sisters dog. Maybe I have those allergies and asthma under control. Haven't had any sneezing fits since June 7th. Hooray!

I think it's a combination hormones and diet and heat. They don't swell this bad when I'm eating NK. This weekend was Carby and I forgot to take my pills for a while. I'm back on my eating plan and been taking my pills for a few days. I expect this to stop by the end of the week. (Even with the heat) I've developed this weird physical manifestation within the last few years.

storytha, I hope the swelling goes down soon. That looks so uncomfortable. I'm having to fight the urge to restrict. I'm reading a journal by someone who read Spinardi's book and put the principles into practice, then returned to JUDDD about 2 months later. That gives me hope because I do want to return to some form of intermittent fasting eventually. It's just really hard to break the diet habit, even for a few weeks. Today I had a sausage biscuit and black coffee for breakfast, skipped lunch, and ate a Quest bar for a late afternoon snack. I made tacos for dinner again and only ate 2.

I'm in the process of reading it now, along with a couple other things. I'd like to be really angry about it... but that serves no purpose. I should've known something of this nature was in the mix anyway - along with the pharmaceutical industry. We're veritably surrounded by misinformation and special interests. What a morass.

I forgot I was having dinner with a friend this evening so I will be doing neither fat fast nor straight fast. Focusing on doing my little bit of exercise with DailyBurn, keeping my water intake to a good level. That's enough for this week. Have a great day!

Oh my gosh, storytha, that looks so uncomfortable! I hope that you are fully recovered very soon!
Exotec, yeah, it's very frustrating when politics and monied interests win out over science and truth, because people get hurt in the process. I used to be very angry about this stuff. My grandmother died from diabetes complications, and I was so upset to think about how much longer she might have lived if her doctor and our culture in general promoted good nutrition. But anger is a pretty destructive emotion. I try to avoid it (not always successfully!). The funny thing is, there was a time when the general population DID understand the basic idea behind diet and weight loss and good health. A few weeks ago, I was shopping at an antique store, and I found this little booklet about weight loss from the 1950's. It emphasized eating good quality animal foods for protein and satiety, and advised restricting starches and sugars! So there was a time when we actually got it. And then, all this political mess of the 1970's happened, and we all bought the lie that grains were the key to health, and animal foods would give us heart disease. It's crazy.
My friend introduced me to a refreshing new drink that I'd never tried before, so I thought you guys might like it too. It's not sweet, and you could also add a dash of sea salt to it if you're trying to increase your salt intake. Just take your favorite sparkling water, and pour into an iced glass. Add a little splash of lemon or lime juice, and a few drops of aromatic bitters. It is surprisingly good! My friend recommended Angostura bitters, because she said it's very good, affordable, and widely available. In my supermarket, it was next to the whiskey. But if you live in a state that doesn't allow grocery stores to sell liquor, then it would be with the stuff that they sell to mix with your liquor: margarita mix, Bloody Mary mix, etc. It is non-alcoholic, but it is used in mixed drinks. I think it was about $6 or $7 for a small bottle, but it will last for a LONG time since you don't use that much (I think I usually use about 8 drops per standard sized glass). It has a really nice herbal sort of flavor. It's a nice change of pace from all the sweet drinks that our culture seems obsessed with!
Did great on my diet yesterday, and went for another run. Got a whoosh of -1.2 pounds this morning, so that was nice!

Hi all. Happy Thursday
Yesterday's numbers:
Cals 1359 Fat 89.27 Carbs 27.35 Prot 78.84
B- Coffee w/ HWC & CO L- String cheese, deviled eggs D- Tilapia, Broccoli, baguette w/ butter S- protein shake, almonds, cheese, 2 cherries, diet root beer w/ HWC (yum-it even foams up like a root beer float w/ ice cream)
Down another pound-still thinking it's water weight. Feet still swollen so I know I've got quite a bit of water still in me.
Life is good. DD is with me at Grama's house. She wants to bake some cookies or brownies for Grama so I'll have to stop by the store today and try to stay good and not sneak some.

Hey Greta, I was in California last month for a coaching certification. To complete it I am to do 60 hours of coaching. I don't have any requirement other than doing the coaching. I decided to give away free coaching sessions through the end of August. The client brings the topic to discuss, our sessions are confidential, and there is no selling on my part at any time. People are welcome to more than one session. If you're interested in trying it out, go to this link: www.timetrade.com/book/Z3Q2N and find a time that works for you. If you do decide, when you get to the calendar, look at the upper right to choose your time zone. The software keeps your time zone and mine straight for both of us. Thanks, Cheryl, for the kind words. It is super fun to me to help people this way.

I'm dipping my toes further into the concept of eating whatever I like. I stopped at the grocery store after work and looked around to see what appealed to me. I got fresh peaches, watermelon, sliced turkey and roast beef from the deli, sourdough bread, an assortment of cheeses, and a tiny chocolate pie.
I skipped lunch and was hungry when I got home, so I made a turkey & brie sandwich and ate that with pickles and a few potato chips. I'm finding that I can control myself around chips if I eat something else first, and don't just mindlessly munch on them.

storytha ~ your feet look just like mine! That edema and thickening goes right up to my knees. Makes it really tough to get into shoes.
I had a good visit with my Functional Med doctor today. He took me off almost all of my supplements and put me on a high-dose drip supplement one day a week for the next month. Then we recheck values. I'm praying this corrects my outrageous homocysteine level. It's such a relief to not have to sit for 30 minutes trying to get all my oral Rx meds and supplements down, too. I'm only taking about 4 or 5 supplements now. yay
We're still in rental-house-hunting mode. I found 3 more to drive by. One is in a really nice area - woodsy, backs up to a lake. Older homes, which I like. I called the agent, but it was late, so maybe he'll return the call tomorrow. We've got 2 others to tour on Saturday. It would be so good to get this tension and stress off me! Surely one of these will be acceptable! I hope.
Life is passingly good today. What a nice change! ~v~

gretalyn ~ I like Himalayan salt... and I just picked up some RealSaltâ„¢ because I've heard good things about it. I think the thing to keep in mind is to use *mined* salts, not evaporated ones. The mined salts are derived from waters which were not yet polluted. Even Celtic sea salt is evaporated, I think (I'm not certain of that).

The pink Himalayan salt is good, I picked up a small shaker top bottle to try it out. I also like Baleine sea salt to use in cooking.
I almost skipped logging my meals yesterday, but I'm glad I did because it showed fewer calories and carbs than I thought I was eating. Even with no food restrictions and eating to appetite, I find that I rarely go over 100 g carbs a day - certainly not low carb but far less than the standard Western diet.
