I think maybe I didn't explain myself very well earlier. I'm eating less fat because I ran out of things like coconut oil and cream and can't buy any more right now. I'll restock my pantry when I get paid later this week. I had another chicken salad flatbread for dinner, and that brought my calories up. Today was kind of carb-y but at least I got some fiber in. Today's numbers: 1360 calories, 82 g fat, 58 g carbs, 100 g protein. Sounds like you are doing great. You are using your imagination and making it work! It would be easy to just say oh well, not even gonna track my food. But you are still tracking and sticking to it!

Thanks, Cheryl. I'm hanging in there, or at least trying. I just found out my roommate won't have their half of the rent until Thursday. ugh. Now I have to hope my paycheck gets deposited before the rent payment goes through. If it doesn't, then I guess they will be paying the late fees. It's a testament to low carb that even under all this stress I'm not throwing my diet out the window. It actually does not even occur to me to turn to food for comfort now. NK really has done a lot to curb unhealthy eating habits.

So I bought some Natural Calm today, and I'm about to drink it after having my usual 500mg of magnesium oxide... I'm kind of nervous about it, because I hope it makes me sleep and not run to the bathroom I didn't know how much to start out with, but considering so many of us (and so many thyroid patients too) take up to 1200mg daily, I thought their two rounded teaspoons of 325mg or whatever seemed doable. I'm just kinda nervous because the citrate is supposed to be absorbed a LOT more readily, and when SO drank one of those magnesium citrate drinks they were in the bathroom a whole day It SMELLS good though! I bought the raspberry lemon one, so hopefully it goes down alright

You are a lot braver than me Melanie, experimenting with magnesium at bed time LOL! Well unfortunately it's the only time I can take it, and I'm partially taking it to help me sleep But I actually just found out that magnesium lowers cortisol, and has a direct effect on the way cortisol is processed and metabolized... which makes a heck of a lot of sense now that I think about what happened to me the last time I tried to split my dose 1/2 in the morning, and 1/2 at night. That's the day I almost collapsed at the park and felt like someone pulled a plug out of the wall like I was some kind of electronic Turns out since my daytime cortisol is so pathetic, I essentially drained myself of whatever I even had left at the time (which wasn't much) and almost sent my body spiraling into adrenal crisis. I pretty much could have passed out cold. Pretty scary stuff :eek:Now I only take it at night, which is when my cortisol is stupidly high (hence my sleeping troubles, and waking up at all hours of the night). This way I hopefully get the benefits from the magnesium that I so desperately need AND I hopefully help my adrenals out a bit in the process That being said, I don't know how quickly I'd notice anything umm... different, but I feel absolutely fine with that 325mg. I'm having a feeling I should have done double that, but I didn't want to chance it

Melanie, I have the Source Naturals magnesium citrate and it's raspberry citrus flavor. You just reminded me to take some! It was cheaper than Natural Calm.

I guess that means no shopping till Thursday, since you have to cover the rent till then?

Melanie, I have the Source Naturals magnesium citrate and it's raspberry citrus flavor. You just reminded me to take some! It was cheaper than Natural Calm. Awww does it work for you? I'm wondering if I just need a HUGE quantity of magnesium or something, or if there's just so much else going on with me that it's never going to work on its own... either that or maybe it needs time to build up in your system? I basically took my usual 500mg of oxide last night, knowing that wasn't even being absorbed much but figuring I may as well use the pills up rather than toss them. Then I took the recommended dosage for long time users of Natural Calm, which was 2 rounded teaspoons... or 325mg of magnesium citrate. I was worried about THAT quantity causing stomach distress. Well... I took it, nothing happened. I FELT relaxed, but woke up a couple hours later at 1:30am again. So obviously THAT didn't help me sleep "like a baby" like everyone claims, unless that baby is fussy as heck and waking up every couple of hours Anyway, I took a chance and got up (since I couldn't fall back asleep) and took ANOTHER 2 rounded teaspoons thinking I just sealed my bathroom fate for the rest of the night. Aaaaaand... nothing. Absolutely nothing It took me ages to get back to sleep, I still woke up a couple times, and the only time I felt like I could really get rest was when my alarm was going off at 8:30am. AND I didn't even have to use the bathroom this morning... I don't even know what to make of that! I don't know if I should try again tonight or what, and just up my dose... I hear up to 50% of the citrate may be absorbed, but I guess 650mg on top of my oxide did nothing unless that's what kept me awake. I just doubt it because I have issues sleeping every night pretty much. Just usually not to that degree, but I may have been stressed out about what it was going to do to my stomach or something

raindroproses maybe there is a brief acclimation period for the different forms of magnesium. And your body is already used to regular doses of at least one form of magnesium so it might work better tonight than last night

And your body is already used to regular doses of at least one form of magnesium so it might work better tonight than last night I'm hoping that's the case, but from what I've been reading magnesium actually causes insomnia in a lot of people rather than helping them sleep... that's going to be really horrible if that's the case with me, because like I was mentioning yesterday I literally CAN'T take it at any other time of the day without really messing myself up I'm going to try adding some extra calcium to the mix and see if that helps too, I dunno. They're supposed to balance each other and I was only getting 500mg of calcium a day... I bought 600mg capsules to try and get up closer to the 1200mg they recommend. I'm just irritated that all the calcium supplements out there come with D3 in them already. I'm already taking 5000IU of D3 daily at this point, so I don't need any more I guess I'll have to cut back on my liquid or something to be safe!

Hi Everyone! I was out of town for an extended weekend, so didn't have time to check in. We took daughter to an anime convention in Dallas. She had a great time, but Dallas isn't my favorite place so I'm glad to be back home. I haven't had any problems staying on track while traveling before, but this time it was hard. For example, I ordered one dish that was a chicken breast covered in sauce, on a bed of diced ham, mushrooms, and potatoes. I thought I could just skip the potatoes and still have plenty to eat. It turned out to be a small chicken breast, four bites of ham, precisely TWO tiny slices of mushroom, and enough potatoes to feed an army. Virtually every meal was like that -- the BBQ place clearly expected you to fill up on the free bread, because they sure didn't serve much meat. So I either went hungry a lot, or, I regret to report, ate things I shouldn't have. So, back on track today! So far, so good. Had a nice four mile hike this morning and a good NK breakfast.

Not playing for me. And the Mil comment about friend Betty's teeth falling out was me. That was so funny, MIL says Oh LC is bad. I know a lady that tried it and she got bad breath and her teeth got loose. To which DH replied, Well I know a lady that wasn't on LC and she had bad breath and a big ole BUTT! I remember that! Laughed so hard that my daughter thought I was nuts.

Have not yet listened to the podcast but looked at the summary: Do two times the RDA for magnesium for optimal levels You know, I actually did listen to that podcast, but somehow missed the very important point that you should double the RDA. I've been taking the RDA and it has been hugely helpful. I'll try increasing and see what happens. Thanks for mentioning this!

Welcome back Greta!! Except for the military and extended business travel (like out of state for a year one time), I've lived in Texas in the DFW area my whole life and I have never been a fan of that city. The surrounding cites are pretty good though, like Plano and Mesquite and Los Calinas.

Weigh-in this morning ... 189.2. My average for the week was 189 which is the same as the average for the week before but I am maintaining the 2 pound loss from the average three weeks ago. My average calories for the week were about 2,700.
My average calories for the last 7 weeks has been 2,450 and my week ending average weight was 195 (7 weeks ago) so my weekly average weight has dropped 6 pounds. But that is using averages. I weighed 195.5 then and 189.2 now but the scale has gone up and down over that time.
I'm certain that my belly looks less fat though. I noticed that several days ago. Back before the fiasco of quitting smoking when I got to 186 it really bugged me because I still had a distinct pot belly. I thought, at the time, what the heck how low should my weight be??? But this time around, as I re-approach 186, my belly does not look the way it did last time around.
There are some differences between now and then. For one thing I am a whole lot more knowledgeable about NK. My protein intake is considerably higher than it was back then. I have incorporated a very, very modest exercise routine (takes less than 5 minutes to complete and I do it every other day at most usually). I'm inclined to think that the last time around I'd lost more LBM than I should have because my protein grams were too low for me. And I noticed at that time that my arms looked stick thin (which is no longer the case thanks to my McGuff inspired exercise).
