The dietitian wants me to get 100-150g protein/day but I am struggling to hit 100g a day, much less the higher number or even middle of the road. And I supplement already with whey protein and low carb EAS shakes--one or both 1x/day. I'd rather get most or all of my protein with real food but it's not that easy so far. I've got to figure this thing out

150 g? That's a lot for your size--- isn't that approaching the upper end of Phinney/Volek's recommendation of 2.5 g pro per kg of idea weight? I know you exercise a lot, so that bumps your protein up, but holy smokes that's a lot!
One idea is to make a chicken spread. I used to make it with tofu but I gave up soy.
Original recipe:
10 to 14 oz cubed cooked chicken breast half a box of silken tofu whirl the chicken around in a food processor, add the tofu and combine. Toss in salt and pepper and some finely diced celery, green peppers, and a little onion. You can add oil, warm water, or broth to thin it if you want but I like it thick.
Ideas to make it soy-free: cream cheese and a little HWC to thin it. Or cream cheese and broth sour cream or yogurt. This would be tasty with cucumbers I bet. cottage cheese, puree it in the food processor and then add some mayo to make it creamy.
It's very easy to eat, so you might be able to do a lot of it and thus boost your protein.

Today ended up being kind of carb-y. I won't be able to get groceries for a few days, and not all of the food in my house is low carb. My weight might bounce up a little over the weekend, but that's okay. I can eat super low carb after Tuesday. I made gluten free pizza for dinner using a pre-made crust by Rudy's Organic Bakery. It was better than I expected, and satisfied my pizza craving. My birthday is coming up in 2 weeks, and I've decided my only indulgence is going to be dessert. I don't want to deal with the effects of a full cheat day, but I know my body can tolerate a piece of cake or pie.

Can't remember what the pickle juice is all about somebody enlighten please sorry to be redundant. But pickle juice and vinegar not the same animal. When I have made pickles sugar and spices are added to vinegar even if sugar not listed it's there. Braggs cider vinegar no carbs and contains the mother used to ferment apples... 1tbl is enough. Be very sure to brush teeth after shooting ..vinegar rots teeth!

It's better to rinse, and wait a half hour or longer to brush. I can't imagine taking a shot of vinegar straight anyway - my throat would be burning. well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/really-never-brush-your-teeth-immediately-after-a-meal/?_r=0

My menu usually included 6 oz of Greek yogurt, which has 18 g of protein. Here's a sample menu: FOOD Bacon, 3 medium slices Coconut Oil, 1 tbsp Half and Half Cream, 1 fl oz Eggs, 3 large Regular Coffee, 1 cup (8 fl oz) Fage Greek Yogurt 2%, 6 oz American Cheese, 2 slice (3/4 oz) Olive Oil, 1 tsp Dill Pickles, 1 small Ground beef, lean, 6 oz Coffee, 1 cup (8 fl oz) Hot Cocoa Swiss Miss Diet, 1 serving Coconut Oil, 1 tbsp Apple, 70 grams Cheddar Cheese, 1.4 oz Calories: 1576 Fat: 118 Protein: 101 Carbs: 27

I want to second the request about pickle juice. I feel as if I'm missing something. Kathy Dill pickle juice is great for leg cramp relief. Usually it works within a minute to get rid of cramps after a swig or two. The sodium and vinegar apparently fix the electrolyte problem that causes the cramps. As for carbs, I guess it depends a little bit on the brand. Vlassic doesn't list any sugar on the midgets bottle I have. I checked the nutrition value for white distilled vinegar and it was zero carbs for a cup of vinegar. I don't think dill pickle juice has any carbs so I never record it when I drink it. I like the taste of pickle juice and I can't stand the thought of swigging ACV lol so ... PJ for me.

Cheesecake is a great idea, but no one else in my family eats low carb and I don't want to make a big deal out of it. I know I can eat a slice of cheesecake and not be triggered into eating a ton of carbs. It will be okay.

Weigh-in this morning... 185.3 for a one pound bounce but I think my scale might be going on the fritz I usually reset the scale before the second weigh-in and this time when I did my post-reset weigh-in it showed 190. What is really funny is that when I saw it I didn't think it was high I thought it was low lol. Isn't that strange? I've been looking at sub-200 WI's for months but I guess it is still strange for me to think of myself as well under 200 pounds after being well over 200 pounds for decades.

I've got to figure this thing out Try to focus on lean 'light' protein sources Chapel. Like lean fish - you can eat a lot of protein without it feeling heavy if you know what I mean. It sits a lot different when I eat 10oz of fish vs 10oz of chicken breast vs 10oz of steak. Moderate the portion size of your side items so that you can keep your protein portion bigger without feeling like you are trying to eat half the fridge in one setting.

158.6, baby. Woot woot!
I had a nice late bacon and egg breakfast and one little sausage link after sleeping in this morning (rare for me). Lunch will be half an avocado and I'll pick the chicken out of the stirfry leftovers. Salad and a pork chop for an early supper. And I'm having some people over so I'll set out veggies, dips, and brie with pepperoni crackers for snacks. I might run into town for a bag of chips so the muggles don't eat all of my delicious low carb goodness.

I don't know if 'like' is the word I'd use but I am used to it I hope it isn't going out though because buying a new one will be such a pain in the butt. So many choices and I am a very picky person about things that I use frequently.

WI this morning 177.2 or .4 can't remember but we ate out last night - had a big omelette with cheese/meats/veggies and then afterwards stayed up late w/ my son and ended up eating a LC prot bar so was happy to see 177's this morning still.
Went to the farmers market and got some YUMMY stuff, stoked. Kinda $$ but didn't get a ton of stuff...lots of fresh veggies. After the market stopped by Wal Mart for HWC. Had my first meal at 945a - coffee/5oz HWC/splenda then later had 3 eggs in KG butter mmmm w/ salt. Also had 1.5 oz pickle juice in there too. Just entered all my food so far today and pleased but need some more prot when I get home...I'm at a local rec center w/ my son. I did a little strength set workout today at home; felt good; burned more cals than i expected on my HR Watch and happy to see that lol; no cardio today. My body is feeling light and good; taking the primrose to get ready for the next TOM. Hoping everyone has a GREAT day!!

Hi!! On vacation in Jersey! I ran a 5 mile race this morning in 51:08! My first race since I was 12 and the furthest I've ever run, EVER. So a PDR AND a PR for me in one day.. woo woo. I'm still bouncing back from that IT band injury so I didn't run super hard since my last longest distance was about 3 miles. Still happy with it. It was NOT fat-fueled, but I'm getting back to it.. One thing that is helping me.. at our doctors appt here on Wednesday, my mom was diagnosed as pre-diabetic..right on the cusp with fasting blood glucose at 110, and cholesterol right at 200. Forget the other numbers. Anyway, our doctor told her to go low-carb! Woo hoo! So I have been coaching her with that the past few days, showing her how to weigh foods, counting carbs, etc. She isn't doing keto, just generic low-carb, keeping carbs under 20 net a day. Not exactly Atkins since she isn't planning on reintroducing safe carbs or anything. We will focus on macros later... We made her a Fit Day account today and she is excited! My bloodwork results come back on Monday and I have an appointment at 10:40 to go over them.. he ordered a ton of tests.. man I love my GP here.. he has been our family doctor forever and he is more-or-less my brother's mentor in life.. my brother became a DO as well and they practiced together for awhile. Great guy, very fit, eats low carb. So we will see Monday! No idea what my weight is now, but on Wednesday at the appointment it was 129.4.. so thats cool. This was post race this morning: Icing, icing, icing. Those bruises on my leg are from a run in with a bedpost. My bloodwork is checking for anemia as well, LOL! Excited to focus on keto and running fat-adapted now that I don't have any huge distance hurdles/races to face. Hope yall are well!

I can't imagine taking a shot of vinegar straight anyway - my throat would be burning. well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/really-never-brush-your-teeth-immediately-after-a-meal/?_r=0That is what I had found out too Lisa. I always mix a TBSP or 2 with a full glass of water and then I always drink it with a straw. I have been thinking a lot about vinegar since Darin posted that article on the exercise thread. About 6 years ago I was doing weight watchers and I was drinking a glass of water with vinegar before every meal. I managed to lose 10 lbs. That is the only time I had been able to lose weight in years by counting calories. My teeth got extremely sensitive and I stopped drinking the vinegar. I also stopped losing weight and then I started gaining again. I knew the vinegar must have helped but I didn't know how and I thought it was a diuretic effect or something. After reading that article the other day it all made sense to me. Vinegar regulates insulin and keeps insulin levels low. I was drinking the vinegar before my meals so it aided kept my insulin low and my calories were at about 1200 a day on WW. On LC I am hopefully keeping insulin levels low anyway but I realized that maybe when I do decide to have a glass of wine or a high protein meal I could first have some vinegar to minimize the effects. I tried it last night. I had an 8 oz steak for dinner and 3 oz on pinot noir wine. The wine was much less sweet than the Duplin I had last week but so far no ill effects from the wine and protein. We will see....
