When I woke up this morning I had itchy little bumps around my ankles and on my feet. I just figured I got tiny mosquito bites or chiggers or something yesterday but couldn't figure out where because I wasn't outside. Then I noticed they were all the way up my legs. Then later when I took a shower I noticed I had little red spots on my torso and arms too. I had a rash when I was a month or 2 into my lc diet the first time. I am guessing it is a Keto rash. It looks different than last time and last time it was all over my chest and neck. This is much less noticeable. Do you guys ever have a rash from ketosis? I don't know, they do look like little big bites but I cannot imagine where I got them. My dog is super allergic to fleas and I keep meds on her to prevent them.

Recently read by Denise Minger that overeating fermented foods was bad for her teeth (if a little is good than a lot must be great!).
Cheryl, I haven't had any rash with keto. Maybe it is your allergies manifesting a little differently this year.

Have you checked to make sure no one else in the house has the rash? Have you eaten something out of the ordinary in the last couple of days? Or handled something you typically never handle? Not necessarily something around the house but maybe when you went shopping? "I had a rash when I was a month or 2" I remember that. That one wasn't itchy though, was it? How long did that one take to clear up? Any urges to eat raw meat? Nightmares about attacking innocent bystanders? Are your eyes turning a milky white color?

Lol, Yes, I am having strange urges to watch Steven King movies, do you think it's related?
I checked a few minutes ago when everyone got up and they all seem to be rash free.
The rash I had before lasted a few weeks. I had initially thought that rash was from artificial sweetener but it lasted so long I finally figured it was a keto rash.
This rash was really itchy when I woke up. Maybe it's just some sort of detox.

This rash was really itchy when I woke up. Maybe it's just some sort of detox. Possibly, most of his book to the silver screen ventures were awful, but a bigger red flag would be urges to watch the last three seasons of Fantasy Island which would indicate severe damage to rationality and sense of good/bad/OMGAwful. Mr. Roarke's drama queen declamation concerning Mephistopheles: "He is after my immortal soul!!!111!!" Thus marking Darin's very first experience with crushing disappointment in a previously awesome TV show transformed from silly fun to vapid mush. heh It does sound detox-ish. I know that I seem to experience detox related skin issues while losing weight. Mine is usually in the form of pimples or, ugh, warts but they typically come in singles. Before LC and weight loss I never got warts and I almost never got acne.

no worries then. I don't have any urge to watch Fantasy Island. Other then occasionally blurting out "I Duddits" I seem to be getting better.

Weigh-in this morning 180.4 and down point nine. Interesting. I looked back at the last few weeks and typically I stay in NewPound.x for four to seven days before going down to the next pound. But this past week broke that pattern by skipping the 182s almost entirely (only the bounce WI) and the 181s lasted four days (182 bounce WI inclusive). I'm very curious to see if I bounce back up for a few days. If so I'll be curiously annoyed lol.
Also interesting was that I was hungry yesterday and didn't do the IF that I'd been doing. I usually just have coffee calories and then one big meal for dinner but yesterday I had coffee calories (~450), then about 1000 calories for lunch, then about 600 for dinner and then about 800 for a snack.

Vague remembrances are that a little goes along way. No need to adopt the Western way of thinking that if a little is good, a lot is better. A bite or two with a meal as often as pleases you is good enough. I found this excerpt (posted Jan/2000) by and from Sally Fallon and Mary Enig's Nourishing book on the Westin A. Price site Pam. www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/lacto-fermentation/"Lactic-acid fermented vegetables and fruit chutneys are not meant to be eaten in large quantities but as condiments. They go beautifully with meats and fish of all sorts, as well as with pulses and grains. They are easy to prepare, and they confer health benefits that cannot be underestimated." You were recollecting right

Hey! Thanks for finding that Darin. Good to know the noggin is working. Well, I know it is--it's confirmation. Good for you on the drop in pounds. Yea!

I was thinking, 'hmmm fermented veggies should be less carby' so I started googling around to see how much less carby they are. I never did find anything definitive on veggies but lots of the hits were about how fermentation works which is how I ended up reading that page with that passage on the exact topic that we'd been discussing lol.

Interesting how life works. We're talking about sauerkraut and fermenting here and one of my FB buddies just posted his picture of his garden grown homemade sauerkraut (he had carrots, chives and Serrano peppers in as well) looked good. I have brought a protein shake to work. I was sorely lacking in proper protein this weekend. I didn't track too well. I think my carbs were high and definitely protein was low. It's a 50g shake I've never tried before. Hopefully it's good. I've had my wonderful coffee and looking forward to the day. Fall is here. Foggy this morning-it looked like a black and white photo out there. But sun is shining now. Very pretty. I have a HUGE adult only Halloween party this coming Saturday. Last year we had about 60 people. This year looks more like 80. The person coming furthest away is Wyoming. Though I have some from Idaho and California on the "Maybe" RSVP list. Oh, and a few from Oregon coming. (Remember I'm in Washington State). We've got our costumes and have decorated every inch inside and out. Now comes cleaning and food prep. It is BYOB but I always have lots of hot hors d'oeuvres. Menu usually includes Lil' Smokies in BBQ sauce, S&S meatballs, bacon wrapped water chestnuts (my signature dish), and stuffed mushrooms. Other items include veggies & dip, and the skeleton shaped Cheetos puffs. Some LC options I'm adding are blue cheese stuffed pecans, the Buffalo cauliflower bites w/ blue cheese dip (that was a hit at Girl’s Night), and maybe a cheese ball in the shape of a hand. A few people bring dishes, but most know there is always plenty. I usually am so busy hostessing I rarely even get one bite of food so I should stay pretty LC. I should hit Costco today or tomorrow to get supplies. I’m very excited! Have a great Monday!

What foods have you added you were skipping while off Keto for a while? I read a list that included sharp cheddar, spinach, and red wine (Lord I hope I never become histamine intolerant with this list! )

Hi Everyone! Sorry that I've been away for so long. You guys have probably figured out by now that I sort of do this "on again, off again" thing here. Darin, I'm so glad to see that you're back!!! Woot! My diet has been pretty steady, and so my weight has too. Had a bit of an unplanned cheat Sunday night, so I know today is going to be a little harder to stay on track because of it (haven't figured out why, but it's always the day after the day after I cheat that's the hardest!). I really dropped the ball on my exercise routine so I'm going to try very hard this week to get back on track. Went to tai chi class yesterday, which is certainly a beneficial activity even if it doesn't count as exercise. Better than sitting on the couch, right? In unrelated news: we just got back from a lovely family vacation to Tucson. I never knew there was so much to do there, but my husband and daughter LOVED the Pima Air and Space Museum and the Titan II Missile Silo. Kitt Peak Observatory, and Suguaro National Park were also really fun. We decided to continue homeschooling, all the way through high school. We're using Kolbe Academy, which is a distance-learning school that provides a very literature- and history-rich Classical type education. (though we're not studying Classical languages - she opted for German instead). It's pretty rigorous and demanding, and very time-consuming! But she's reading things that I have never read before, not even in college, so that's pretty cool. I'll try to catch up on the October thread today to see what you guys have been up to. Hope that everyone is well and happy!

Goodness gretalyn you are brave homeschooling thru high school. My daughter was just telling me the other day that home school kids are A LOT smarter than the kids she went to school with. The place she is working now is all a group of kids that were homeschooled. She says she couldn't believe how much more they learned than she did in public school. Glad you had such a fun vacation. Sounds wonderful.

Well I have had an interesting delve into IF yesterday. I had forgotten my protein shake until about 4:45 when DH texted that he and the kids wanted McDonald's Chicken Nuggets for dinner/Monday Night Football. So in order to abstain from sneaking bad foods on the drive home, I drank the 50g protein shake-flavor was "OK". It was thick. I don't think I could drink it daily, but was fine. Anyway, around 9:30 I realized I hadn't bothered to reheat/eat the taco meat I had planned for my dinner. It was so late and I physically wasn't hungry, so I tempted fate and decided to not eat. So now I'm drinking my coffee with just H&H/stevia at work and won't eat until noon. I think I'll be ok.
Monday's numbers Cals 1116 Fat 57.36 Carbs 15.36 Prot 68.42
no WI
I brought another protein shake for today. Only a 35g one. And a babybel if I start feeling hungry. I have Cub Scouts tonight, so will be very active and will need a good lunch and dinner today.
Have a great day!

Sounds wonderful. I'm not so sure that I'm brave - it's just that my daughter was completely convinced that it was the right choice for her. She's a good student and prefers to work as independently as possible, so really my job is relatively easy. Still, it was kind of a scary thing. It's a big responsibility, and one that I sure don't want to mess up! I do like hearing success stories -- thanks for the encouragement!
