Yesterday’s numbers: Cals 1037 Fat 60.13 Carbs 30.0 Prot 61.32 WI 279.6 -1.0# So on my 3 day weekend I made my crock pot chili and cauliflower Spanish “rice”. Both very good. Will be using them for lunches this week. The stuffed mushroom recipe went untried-my mushrooms got old. I made a Taco bar for the Seahawk game and have tons of meat and fixings left over as well. So lots of talk on the news channels regarding sitting all day being bad for you. I sit 8 hours at work and couch it 6 hours in the evening. My office printer is just outside my office door but I stay seated until someone brings me my print job. One person said that it helps her immediately walk to co-worker’s offices. I leave the mail/paperwork on my desk until either they come into my office to ask a question or I get up for lunch/bathroom breaks. I am incredibly sedentary. I have a U shaped desk with two separate computers. Desk “converters” are ridiculously expensive. I’m going to keep looking into my options. I was thinking that report had some merit. Glad that your new recipes turned out well! I think the only new thing I've tried recently is the "Almost Payday" candy bars from Linda's Low Carb. They are not that much like Payday, really, because you taste the whey protein, which is nothing like nougat. But they are still so good that it's hard to stop eating them! Fighting my sedentary tendencies has been on my mind a lot since I read that book "Sitting Kills". I looked into buying some fitness tech that alerts you when you've been sedentary for too long, but decided against it (for reasons that I won't bore you with unless you really want to know). I've got my activity cards, and I put them out where I can see them at the start of the day. But it still depends on looking over and seeing them, and it's all too easy to forget, or to start to visually "tune them out". I guess I need to start setting the timer on my iPad (or smartphone, if I had one) every time I sit down.

I ran yesterday, first time in 2015 (finally!). So today is supposed to be weights. But I'm still sore from the weights I did on Monday. So, would you advise me to push through and do it anyway (I'm not so sore that I can't do it, just sore enough that I'm sure I'll be even more sore if I do!). Or should I do something really low-key today like a long walk, and wait until I'm not sore any more?

gretalyn I'm not knowledgeable about exercise. But I'd hate to see you over do it and hurt even more. I think if you do something active today you can count it as a win. If it won't throw off your plan, save the weights for tomorrow.

Yesterday's numbers: Cals 1273 Fat 74.54 Carbs 46.25 Prot 69.21
WI 280.2 +.8# Confused by the bounce but I did have an evening snack of cottage cheese and dummy me brought the whole container to my seat instead of portioning out so I ate more than I meant too. It put my sodium up to 3024g. So maybe tomorrow I will have flushed this water weight and have a big loss.
B- Coffee L- Salad bar D- Chicken strips, green beans S- macadamia nuts, cottage cheese
BUSY day in the office today. Visiting pension representative and lawyers. I was going to bring my lunch but the conference room/lunch space will be filled with meetings. I will just have to be careful. Maybe a Wendy's burger (no bun) and side salad are in order. I like that they have sparkling lemon water on their beverage station.

If it won't throw off your plan, save the weights for tomorrow. My plan is adjustable, so I think you're right. I'll do something active but kind of low-key for today, and hopefully be recovered enough to do weights without worry tomorrow. Thanks!

I had an evening snack last night too, though I've been *trying* to implement a new rule of no snacking after 8pm. But yesterday was a bit of an exception because I'd had to eat dinner earlier than usual for an evening meeting. Then when I got home I had a weird craving for hot cocoa - something I almost never want! So I broke my new rule and indulged. I made it low-carb of course, but it's certainly not no-carb. I didn't know that about the sparkling lemon water at Wendy's. Is it unsweetened or just sweetened with something non-caloric? I'm always on the lookout for good unsweetened beverages.

Remember Storytha, weight loss is not linear (if I do x today then y will always happen on the scale the next day), it's the trend over time. Maddening but true, true, true. Not how we would set it up, right? Poor sleep last night which equals no weigh-in today. I was tired of seeing that number anyway. Today is called "endurance" day--things are all plank related. Go me!

This Wendy's has this machine: (I didn't know how to describe it.) and in it is the Seagram's Sparkling Lemon Water, which is just carbonated water with no carbs. Just wakes up the water drinking for me with a few bubbles. It also has the Dasani flavored water, but that has artificial sweetener in it.

Oh, yeah, we do have those machines in a growing number of fast food places here. But I never realized before that there was an unsweetened option. Thanks!

Yesterday's endurance day wasn't so bad. I did forget about it all together until evening so I only did one set. The thing I have the most room for improvement is planks lifting opposite arm/leg. Today is abs and it doesn't look too brutal. It's important for me to do a set or two while still at Mom's in the a.m. if I am going to progress in doing more sets. I am not a night-time exerciser because of the deleterious impact on sleep for me.

Well, I did nothing yesterday. After deciding not to do weights, I thought I would go for a nice long walk in the afternoon. Then we had constant rain and sleet all afternoon! That virtually never happens here (usually it rains for no more than 30 minutes at a time) so it was most unexpected. I guess I should watch the weather forecast once in awhile. When the forecast calls for clear skies and sunshine 99% of the time, you get pretty spoiled, and start taking the nice weather for granted! The soreness has subsided to a point where I can definitely do my 5 x 5 workout today.

I am not a night-time exerciser because of the deleterious impact on sleep for me. You're definitely not alone there. I've read about studies showing just that. I remember reading years ago, pretty sure it was in a Paul Chek book, that 9 or 10 am is the optimal time to workout, because you've been awake and moving long enough by then that your joints are "lubricated" and your muscles no longer stiff, and the balance of diurnal/nocturnal hormones is just right for getting the most out of your workout. I don't know how much science there is to back that up, but I think for most people, it's just not do-able anyway, because they have to be at work at that time. My theory is that working out ANY time before 5pm is good enough!

Yesterday's numbers: Cals 774 (oops) Fat 46.82 Carbs 38.49 Prot 45.29
WI: 279.6 -.8# (glad that's gone)
B- coffee L- cheeseburger patty, chili D- salmon S- dill pickles and juice (headache)
One of the reasons I ate so little is I wasn't feeling well and fell asleep on the couch at 8:00. That NEVER happens. I went to bed and slept for 11 hours. Obviously my body was telling me what to do and I finally listened. Feel great this morning. I've been having back lower back aches and head/neck aches so I must be fighting off something.

In line with the conversation on exercise, this was a very interesting interview of (keto Ironman) Ben Greenfield by Jordan Harbinger on the Art of Charm podcast. AoC is more or less a guy focused podcast but Jordan covers a wide swath of topics that are not guy-specific. Of interest to the subject at hand are ideas for moving to thwart sedentarianism (my word if it doesn't exist yet), goosing metabolic rates with cold thermogenisis (which was very interesting) and some general talk about health and fitness. theartofcharm.com/369

Just wanted to note that I noticed I was getting up more at work today. Hopping up to get the print job or delivering the mail right away. I even had a spring in my step through the parking lot. I kinda paused and wondered what had changed. 1. got awesome sleep, so not "tired", 2. My joints don't ache today. Hips knees, & ankles usually creak and groan but not today. I must be in full Ketosis. That's one of my symptoms. (though I find myself burping a lot more.-Weird!)
I still have an achy neck/shoulders and lower back pain (but not as bad as two days ago). WooHoo!

Poor night of sleep so no weigh-in today. It's also one of those intense cardio days on the schedule -- running in place (high knees it's called) then plank jump-ins--THAT oughta be interesting. We had piles of rain yesterday. I drove to Houston in it to my annual doc thing. You know lipids and all that. I so like this doc. Since my trigs/hdl ratio shows a CVD risk of less than .5, she doesn't fuss at all about the numbers themselves of HDL/LDL and the total (280). The HbA1c is a teense high and I concluded, now that I understand what it measures, that having it done in January may not be in my best interest. More rain slated today. I bet there is a nap in this Friday for me.

Thursday's numbers: Cals 1534 Fat 85.37 Carbs 55.76 Prot 51.42
WI: 278.8 -0.8#
I had a late meeting which meant that after my 13 hour day, I got home at 9pm to eat dinner. I made the choice of red wine and left over refried beans (not remembering how high carb they are) so it put me over. But I woke to a loss this morning so I'm not worried.
I'm looking forward to a casual day at work and family movie night tonight. Going to keep my carbs low for lunch because there were rumblings about Outback Steakhouse takeout for dinner and I'm pretty sure they hide carbs everywhere. (ex: They say their steaks are 0 Carbs but list it's seasoning as non-GF)
Happy Friday, all!

Thanks! I will definitely give that a try. I've sworn off the crazy deep pretzel-twist type stretches that I used to do, but I am very open to the gentler "restorative" poses. I know that I tend to hunch over too much in my upper back and shoulders, so that should be a nice counteraction to that. And I've always had very tight hip adductor muscles, and I remember that the non-sputa version of buddha konasana helped with it a lot, though it sure hurt at first. I like that idea of using the blocks to support your legs in this reclined/supta version of the pose - that should help a lot. Speaking of weird yoga poses reminded me of the episode of "An Idiot Abroad" where he visited India. Have you ever seen that show? I thought the stuff that's done here in American yoga classes was crazy. I had no idea.

I've listened to Ben Greenfield's podcast a few times. Haven't done so in awhile, though. I'll have to go see if he's got anything new and interesting. That cold thermogenesis stuff sounds pretty brutal to this very cold-natured woman. I think I'd rather find another way to burn those calories.

Happy Friday, all! You know, my favorite thing from Outback is actually not steak but the seared peppered ahi tuna. It's delicious! I went there once during Lent so I ordered that instead of beef, and now it's my fave. I'm sure the sauce is high-carb so I eat it very sparingly. And if you don't like sashimi then don't order it, because it is lightly seared but basically raw. (I love sashimi! Hmmm, I wonder if I can afford to take my daughter out for Japanese today.) It seems possible that the amount of wheat in their seasoning is so minuscule that it doesn't bump up the carbs, but they still can't call it gluten-free. Maybe? Checked my bank balance. No sashimi for me today. Leftovers it is.

Great news, crappy news, and even worse news!! (Not weight related but thought I'd share) Great news: I received a VERY nice raise today at work retro to Jan 1st. It makes me feel that they really value all of my hard work! I really feel this is the place I will retire from in twenty years. You never know what the day will bring but I have never gone home bored! Crappy news: I'm feeling an bladder infection coming on. I haven't had one of those in years. And I've been trying really hard to heal my gut flora. Will hit the clinic tomorrow. Even Worse: The drain pipe under my house (built 1960) for the kitchen sink, dish washer, and clothes washer disintegrated and has been leaking under the house for at close to two months. Horrible smells! Plumber came today, diagnosed it: $1,400.00!!! GAH!!! But I guess that is what savings accounts are for. DH says they've just finished and it already smells better.

I didn't do the cardio today. Today was day 23 and this is the second day I did no business with this. I am okay with that. Tomorrow is a bodyweight day and I like those better anyway. No cardio-girl me. I had a brief nap this afternoon instead.

Me and my scale are separated this morning so no weigh in. Forgot to bring it back from my house yesterday. Oh well! The sun came back late yesterday after three days of gloom and lots of rain. Yippee! And more sun for the week with highs in the 60s and 70s.

My weight has bumped back up to over 133. What's weird to me is how suddenly this happens. Two pounds in a day?!? And it has stayed that high for a couple days in a row now. It's not an amount that anyone else can SEE so I shouldn't let it get to me.
Went for a run yesterday. Got my new FitBit Surge! It's a neat device and I love the interface, but I'm pretty disappointed with the accuracy. It's measurement of my heart rate was off by as much as 50 BPM! If it were off by 10, then who cares. But if it's telling me my heart rate is in the 70's when it's actually in the 120's then what is the point of having it at all? And I did the same run that I always do, which I know to be 1.8 miles long. It said it was 1.5. And the device has a GPS, so it should be highly accurate - it is not just guessing based on number of steps. My Garmin GPS, with which I have done that run more than 50 times, always gave me a result of either 1.77, 1.78, or 1.79. I'm going to send a note to FitBit customer service today and ask if this level of (in)accuracy is typical or if I got a bum device.
