Man that is one timely post right there Cheryl. I have a frozen turkey bought on sale last year that I've been eyeballing because it needs to be cooked. I'm gonna do it this way for sure! Hooray!

Weigh-in this morning 175.3 for a big ol' whoosh of two point two pounds which is very nice but, dang it, I ended up W'ngI about two hours later than usual, which almost always produces a great WI, *and* yesterday I was busy and fasted all the way up to 7pm before finally eating. I had about 700 calories with morning CO/HWC but that was it until the other ~2000 between 7 and 9 pm. I reckon the very late WI accounts for most of the drop though. Ah NK. God bless you. Before NK/LC there is no way on earth I could have gone that long without eating. I was hungry, no doubt about that, but in control. What a wonderful, wonderful feeling of empowerment. Thank you Dr. Phinney, Dr. Davis and Mr. Taubes. Wow, lots to celebrate there. Boy it is nice to be able to do what you need to get done without having to stop to eat. When I was off plan I noticed I would get almost sick sometimes and have to eat. not to mention getting crabby from hunger, I never get that way on NK. 175.3

Wow, congratulations reddarin. Quite a whoosh!!
Cheryl, I love the pumpkins! Fingers crossed on the business owner showing.
gretalyn I think the Treat at a meal is a good thing for you. A good working compromise.
I had yesterday off work (very weird to have a Tuesday off) and we took down all of the front façade and reorganized the whole garage to make better use of space. Now the only thing left is the coffin beer cooler. It lights up from the inside. Supposed to snow tomorrow. We'd better get on it tonight! SIGH- that sucker is heavy!
But good news is I had opportunities to cheat and didn't.
Cals 1267 Fat 69.27 Prot 44.54 Carbs 46.11
WI: 278.6 +0.6# (TOM is in town so I'm not worried about it. I'll probably see a whoosh this weekend.)
Happy hump day!

Happy Thursday. Well, my minivan died yesterday. Just died. Computer chip or something. Unfortunately that chip costs the exact same as my blue book value ($1500.00) so new car shopping this weekend. I don’t know when though. I’ve got Cub scouts at my dad’s pottery studio 2:00-4:00 earning an art badge and then neighbor’s 50th birthday party. I dread taking on an auto loan but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. So the birthday party: This is the neighbor with the fabulous homemade Mexican food and great beer. I’m going to take a page from our buddy Greta and decide ahead of time what is going to be my treat item: one beer, seasoned rice or tiny slice of cake. Only one! The taco meat/shredded pork and veggies will fill the rest of my plate. I am going to find an “Old Man” IPA or something to gift him. Wednesday’s numbers (pretty good for me!) Cals 1520 Fat 94.20 Carbs 28.35 Prot 62.57 No WI (feeling bloated) Supposed to snow today.

I had no idea you could do this! I'm bookmarking this just incase! I cook for my whole family and usually have a 20-25# bird. I'd have to get up pretty early to put it in, but set it and forget it! Thanks!

Interesting. Apparently I am sensitive to Mountain Cedar pollen. Beginning two or three days ago, I've got a runny nose, sneezing, a tiny bit of watery eyes and a little bit of a sore throat (this morning) from drainage. I googled for winter allergies and Mountain Cedar is apparently the winter monster in central Texas. My symptoms don't coincide with the official pollen count map/days but I haven't seen any scientists around town taking measurements right here either. www.weather.com/health/pollen/forecast/Dallas+TX+USTX0327At first I thought maybe I was catching cold but it seems more allergy-like than the whole body nature of a cold. I reckon it is fairly low grade since it hasn't zapped me on the scale so far.

Luckily here in the desert there aren't many cedar trees to create pollen or I'd probably be right there with you.
Hope it passes soon and you feel better.

I wonder if I've had a touch of this in previous winters and just assumed I was (successfully) fighting a cold? Before LC/NK, prior to ~August 2011, I'd get a horrible spend at least one day in bed cold at least once a winter. I bet a few times it was the cedar allergy that weakened my system before I got zapped by a real cold. The antihistamine is certainly wearing me out but at least it is mostly suppressing the symptoms.

I did some more googleing on cooking frozen turkey. The other sites say to take the bag out around 2 hours of cooking. They warn that if the giblets are in a plastic bag you must make sure to make it out before it begins to melt. If the bag melts you would ruin the bird and have to throw it out. Some still package in a paper bag. No worries with paper.

Cheryl, congratulations on selling your paintings!!! Your work is really beautiful, so no surprise that it's selling. I think that being able to go off your allergy meds clearly indicates that you've got things figured out -- at the very least that you've figured out something I have not! And of course you've got the NK thing figured out. Sorry to hear that you are struggling with allergies, too, Darin. Mine are worse than usual right now as well, but in my case, it's not mountain cedars, but the three dogs that occupy my home! Over the summer, we run the swamp cooler (no a/c) so it's always bringing fresh air into the house. In early fall, we just leave the windows open, so again, fresh air. But in the cooler parts of the fall, all winter, and early spring, the house is of course completely shut up. So the dog dander builds, I sneeze, my nose runs, my throat hurts, etc. And this is all while I'm on three different allergy medications!!! And no amount of dog grooming or vacumming and dusting my home seems to matter. The problem is that I fell in love with dogs many years before I developed an allergy to them.

Weigh-in this morning 176.6 for an even one pound bounce. I tell you what though, I sure don't feel like I'm up a pound. I'm still battling this apparent mountain cedar thing, although the symptoms have calmed down quite a bit, because I feel hungry hungry if ya know what I mean.

Uggh, sorry about your van! Thanks. My parents just gave it to me after I totaled my car in an accident a couple of years ago. So it didn't owe me anything. Mom said to "drive it into the ground'. Mission Accomplished. I think driving a 2009+ year car will be much nicer than an 1997 with non-working windshield wipers and "iffy" heater.

reddarin when I was dealing with an allergy attack my appetite would be crazy. I never could decide if it was the antihistamine or the allergies. DeDe said her appetite is crazy when she had allergies too.

Happy Saturday everyone. I continue eating well and that's good. I did have some wine last night and I have an eyeball headache. What that means to me is it hurts behind my right eye. It'll go away. I am not concerned about it. I have been more active intentionally of late, I march in place if that's what I've a mind to do and not get all caught up in "I ought to more/different/whatever." One of my sisters is in town, staying with Mom so I am at home. She's taking me out for a belated birthday lunch. I am thinking salad is what we'll go for. We'll see. LATER: nope, it was sausage at a barbecue place, cooked cabbage and a piece of cornbread with mounds of butter.
