I went in search of SF BBQ sauce yesterday. I checked the local Albertsons and an IGA and double-checked the Wal-Mart. Nope! Dang it. I guess I'll have to order it on line. I think there is a Sprouts (like Whole Foods) opening not too far away so I'll check there before I order something on the Internet. I got some country style pork ribs and sirloin chops on sale for .98 a pound over the weekend and I wanted to try some LC friendly BBQ sauce with them. While looking around, I found this and I got it. It is a little bit carby but I already knew I liked the regular Allegro marinade so I figured this would be gold. It is delicious! It reminds me a lot of the flavor of Korean BBQ if I am remembering that flavor right.

And I found this Jalapeno sauce. I've tried a sauce like this before with a different brand (can't remember it off hand) and I didn't like it. I'm hoping Famous Dave got it right. I love their (pre-LC days) Devil's Spit BBQ sauce.

The Sprouts stores in Austin took over Sun Harvest. I like most of the changes they made, and their prices are nowhere near as high as WF. It kind of depends on the individual store, but they don't have a huge selection. It's good if you are just shopping for staples like meat, cheese, eggs, and produce.

I've been in the Sprouts over in Southlake before. I bought some grain-free beer last year. Man, their meat and produce was an arm and a leg compared to walmart.

I also found Jalapeno Cream Cheese!!! I haven't tried it yet but adding jalapeno to something is almost like adding bacon to something - it can't miss Okay. I tried a spoon of this today. It is freakin' AWESOME!!! I am gonna have to try that. It is really hot?

I am gonna have to try that. It is really hot? I'd say it is spicy but just about perfect for my tastes. Maybe similar to medium picante sauce in heat. I was a bit surprised really. I'm not a huge cream cheese person. I don't hate it but I don't love it either. But they got it right with this blend of jalapenos and cheese. You know how cream cheese can have a sweet undertone? This is all savory.

The Allegro Hot and Spicy was super duper awesome too!! I used it for country style pork ribs and pork chops. Marinated for about 2 hours. Excellent flavor. I wouldn't call it exactly spicy but maybe a tad more than mild.

Oh yeah, they are certainly more expensive than Wal-mart. It just depends on whether you want to pay for things like organic produce or grass fed meat, or conventional factory farmed. I tend to compromise between the two and get most of my meat and veggies at Central Market.
