Hi Everyone,
I've been away for several days, and haven't had a chance yet to read the posts that I missed. I hope that everyone is doing well!
Part of the reason I haven't been on the computer much the last week or so, is that I've actually been feeling GREAT! I've gone six days now without one of my "attacks", which hasn't happened since February or March, so it's been wonderful! I've actually had the energy and ability to get off my butt and do a few things around here, rather than just sitting around all day hoping that I don't pass out.
I finally got in to see the ENT, but it was the same story: he was able to rule things out, but not tell me definitively what is going on. He said my inner ears are perfectly healthy and definitely not the source of the problem. And since my dizziness is more of a light-headed, faint feeling rather than a room-spinning vertigo, he said it sounds to him like a circulation problem and not an inner ear problem. So he wants me to see a cardiologist. But frankly, after seeing four doctors and having all of these tests run, I am just too broke to schedule another appointment any time soon. Our medical insurance is not the best, so this has been a very expensive (and very pointless) wild goose chase. My blood pressure does tend to run on the low side of normal, so he thought it was mostly likely that, but possibly made worse by a heart arrhythmia, so he said I should probably be evaluated for that by Holter monitor. But I tend to think that if it was an arrhythmia, I would be having much more severe symptoms - like not just feeling like I might faint, but actually fainting! So I'm not in any rush to have that test done, if I do it at all. Have to let my bank account recover a bit first!
In the meantime, I do plan to monitor my blood pressure, and try to keep it up. I'll increase my salt intake, and my friends have recommended a few other things such as B vitamins, so I'll look into their suggestions, and would appreciate any from you guys as well!
One thing I'm very interested in right now: I read on wikipedia that for some people, allergies can trigger hypotension. These "episodes" started right around the same time that I was forced to stop taking benadryl for my allergies because of a very unpleasant and scary side-effect: heart arrhythmia! I'm not 100% sure there's a connection because the episodes did continue well past the point where the most triggering spring pollens had subsided, AND we took a brief vacation where I got away from my dogs and the pollen that I react to, and I still had an attack while we were gone. So I'm not sure, but it's an interesting theory.
Well, I've rambled on quite long enough. Again, I hope that you guys have all been well and happy and succeeding with NK. I will try to catch up on the discussion as I can.

Welcome back Greta! That is awesome that you have felt so good the past week! (and very pointless) wild goose chase No. That is incorrect. *Most* of the time figuring something out requires figuring out what it is not. In fact, most of the time knowing what it is not is as valuable as knowing what it is and can be even more valuable. And being able to cross things off as possibilities brings about a situation where solutions can be implied and tested to solve the problem. So! Cheer up because that was money well spent and you are much closer to figuring out what it is now than you were before when you had no idea what it was not.

Thank you for the encouragement and positive perspective, Darin. I actually was feeling that way myself for awhile there. I am VERY grateful that I do NOT have some of the things that the MRI was checking for. And I've been reassured that the cause of it is most likely nothing serious, which is good to hear because when it's happening, it is rather scary. So, yes, I was feeling quite good about it until I remembered...
My very first doctor's visit regarding these attacks was with my family doctor of ten years. My blood pressure has always run a bit low, and that day it was so low that the nurse who checked me in was concerned about it. But he didn't seem to notice or if he did he didn't think twice about it. He also did not spend much time with me at all, barely examined me and didn't seem interested in talking about it. Just wrote me a prescription and sent me on my way after less than ten minutes with me, then OVERCHARGED me for the appointment - as if the correct charge isn't expensive enough already! I can't help but think that if he had taken a little more time and stopped to think about the low blood pressure, maybe he would have sent me straight to a cardiologist, rather than to urgent care, then a neurologist, then an ENT, and only THEN a cardiologist. I know that no doctor is perfect and they all make mistakes. But lately it seems that he spends less and less time with us, and charges us ever more and more.

'Morning everyone! Greetings from sunny (not) UK. Hope you are all well. no weight loss to report , but am experiencing the hunger control of NK...... . I'm finding that I'm just not hungry.....which leads me on to.......should I be trying to keep my calories up, and make myself eat ..or just go with the flow and enjoy this amazing feeling. I presume my appetite will return!!!! BK levels are 1.4 mmols. today. Love and Hugs x I'm a heretic in the LC world because I firmly believe that allowing LC's appetite suppression to dictate calorie levels is foolish. Be proactive and set a calorie goal that is reasonable for weight loss that is still healthy and not too low. Appetite suppression can be a very useful side effect there is no doubt about that. If you are in situations where there is no good LC food choice then not having to eat can be very valuable so by all means take advantage of it when you have to. But! When people cheat on LC they almost always say they were hungry at the time. These people allowed the artificial appetite suppression to rule their calorie intake and put themselves in a position where they'd be hungry if they faced the slightest temptation to eat off plan. You can very easily test that by going several hours without eating and then browsing some LC recipe sites. I guarantee you that 9 times out of 10 you will get mouth watering hungry within 10 minutes of delicious food. The same thing will happen if you are out in the wild and around delicious carby food. But there are other good reasons to keep your calories up. Your thyroid down regulates when you eat low calories. Your metabolism down regulates when you eat low calories. Your cortisol levels go up when you eat low calories. Your lean body mass loss increases with low calories. And probably some other stuff I can't think of off the top of my head. Okay, as far as making yourself eat, think of it a little differently. Every single time someone says that they are thinking in terms of a meal but the fact is you can add lots of calories through snacks throughout the day. Right? You can munch on an ounce of macadamia nuts. That is only 12 nuts and adds about 200 calories. Two snacks like that added to a 1000 calorie day brings the calories up to a very reasonable 1400 calories (depending on the person). One ounce of HWC is about 100 calories so a couple of HWC floats adds 200 easy calories to a day. The thing to try to avoid, as far as keeping calories reasonable, is not to allow appetite suppression force you to try to get all of your calories in at the end of the day. If you've only eaten 400 calories all day and you need to eat a thousand calories for dinner that can be a huge amount of food to try to eat at one sitting.

One thing has nothing to do with the other Greta. I'd be annoyed about that run around too but that doesn't change the fact that you know a lot more now than before. Just find a new family doctor. Or next time you go be frank with the doctor about the service he's been giving you and tell him you'll have to find another doctor that has the time to take better care of you and your family. You don't have to be confrontational about it. Maybe point out that it seems like he has acquired a lot of patients and you don't feel like the personal care is what it used to be. Maybe he can refer you to a doctor he likes that has a smaller patient load. He might explain why he's been distracted too (retirement or death in the family or something). Anyway, don't let that situation get you down

You know, you're absolutely right, Darin. Thanks! Truth is, part of me was glad to have the MRI anyway, despite the expense. My maternal grandfather died of a brain aneurysm when he was just a couple of years older than I am right now, and my paternal grandmother died of a stroke, though I think hers was diabetes related. It's hard not to wonder if you have inherited some of those same tendencies/problems (especially when you're feeling on the verge of fainting all of the time!) so it was very reassuring to hear the neurologist say that my brain looks perfectly healthy. My husband and I have been talking about finding another doctor. My husband went to this doc earlier this year for two problems. But the doc spent most of the appointment talking about his new, super fancy, carbon-fiber framed road bike that's the kind that the pros use, and then told my husband they were out of time and he'd have to schedule another appointment to talk about the second issue! Husband, needless to say, was pretty darned irritated that he'd just spend $216 for the privilege of hearing all about the doctor's bicycle. Basically, he felt as if he'd just helped pay for the bike! And this office that he's in keeps sending us bills for a lot more than we owe - saying that the insurance only paid x amount to toward the bill when in fact they payed x+50, that sort of thing. The whole thing is starting to feel like a fraud.

Wow. Sounds like he is trying to make as much as he can before January 2014 so he can leave his practice. Dump him.

Gretalyn, I am so glad that you are feeling so much better. Been missing you . It is great that they have ruled out so many things that could have been bad. But I can say I would be pretty darned aggravated with that family Doctor. My mom and Dad's Doctor office are continually sending them bills for things that their insurance has already paid. They get pretty aggravated with it all.

Hubby woke up with a black eye this morning He was like, Look at this! I said, oh man. what happened, he said nothing, I just woke up this way. I said, what do you tell a man with 2 black eyes? He said what? I said, Nothing, you already told him twice. He is falling apart. I think he is going to have to go back to having his afternoon naps.

WI this morning MUCH better 177.2 - found myself really hungry this morning. I had fasted from 5p-7a and had first meal of eggs fried in bacon fat then added butter. Stopped at the store on my way to work for HWC and tuna. Ended up pigging out at work on NK foods and hit 2000 calories by 12 so calling it a day. Took my last fish oil supplement at like 1215 so really ended up getting all my calories in a 5 hour window. Plan is to do IF now until tomorrow morning. Shorter window than planned but that's what happens when you eat 2000 calories in 5 hours. I'm not hungry at all right now and will be drinking LOTS of water. Not sure I did so great on salt so may just add some to my water/powerade zero later today but don't think that really hinders my fast in any way, pretty sure no calories. No work out this morning - rested Created a fitness routine/schedule yesterday. Tonight will be heavy deadlifts and will also do squats and lunges. No cardio today. Planning to journal what I do and work to increase weight over time. Thursday I will be doing arm work and a plank challenge. Friday morning will most likely be cardio/Jazz at low impact and lower HR. Friday night is rest/date night. Looking forward to having some structure to my workout routine so that hopefully I will stick to it. I really do want to incorporate the heavy lifting on a consistent basis. Hoping you all have a great day! I'm done eating for the day and glad I'm not hungry. It doesn't stress me out to think I "can't" have any more food until tomorrow because at least I don't have to think about food any more. It's just not needed for the rest of the day. I hit my calorie limit and will get a good heavy workout tonight and call it a day! I got this *edit* forgot to add that my prot ended up about 45g total today so a bit low. will make sure tomorrow is more on point with food choices. was a bit high in carbs but they were from stinky stevia packets. did good on fat g's. tomorrow will hit 70g prot.

RoBiN <3 what is your plank challenge? An off day on protein grams is okay. Think of the protein goal as a rolling 24 hour window.

RoBiN <3 what is your plank challenge? An off day on protein grams is okay. Think of the protein goal as a rolling 24 hour window. My plan to start this plank challenge is to begin with the side plank. It took me a VERY long time to be able to hold this position. I used to not understand how one could hold this at all - so was thrilled when I could finally manage it. I'm going to hold this on both sides and time myself and hold it until I can't hold it any longer in good form. I'm going to push myself to get a good starting/base time. Then each day I have plank challenge scheduled I am going to hold the side plank on each side (with good form) and add 5 seconds. I'm not sure what my base time will be so not sure yet what my "goal" is but have 4 minutes for each side in mind...once I feel great with this challenge I plan to move into different plank forms and do the same...such an easy and low impact move. I'm incorporating the planks into my week on Monday mornings, Thursday evening and Saturdays (morning or night, just gotta knock it out sometime on Sat). I went to google and searched images for "plank challenge" and there are TONS to choose from. I have a "wall sits" challenge in mind for later down the road. If you search images for "wall sits challenge" it also gives lots of little calendars to use to follow a monthly challenge. I'm feeling pretty motivated to add in these strength sets. I really want to drop this weight! Thanks for the feedback on protein. I almost ate more just to hit protein goal but wasn't hungry at all and figure better to stick to an IF plan with lower protein since just for today...def going to hit 70 tomorrow

heh that is one of those things that looks easy till ya do it. In one of the vids I watched with Mike Change he said do a plank if you can't keep doing pushups for the 30 seconds (for that video's routine) so he likes them too

anyone read or familiar with Julie Ross' The Diet Cure? anyone ever take/use 5-HTP?
Found this blurb online: 5-HTP is used for sleep disorders, depression, anxiety, migraine and tension-type headaches, fibromyalgia, binge eating associated with obesity, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and along with prescription drugs to treat seizure disorder and Parkinson's disease.
kind of wondering if i want to add this in to help with the binge eating - especially during PMS...

I read The Diet Cure years ago, but don't have my copy of it anymore. I've been wanting to get the revised & updated version, but keep putting it off hoping the price will go down. I was taking 5-htp when i had trouble sleeping and I feel like it helped. I don't know if 5-htp works for binge eating; just doing a low carb diet has done wonders to curb my urge to binge. Have you seen this chart from the book? I had quite a few of the symptoms pointing to low serotonin, although some have improved lately.

Today I got to go back to a client I'd worked for previously, and they were really happy to see me. The manager said they wanted me to come in last week too, but I was on another assignment. Apparently they'd had trouble getting other temps to understand the work. I thought it was fairly simple, just entering information in databases, but maybe I'm smarter than I give myself credit for. It felt good to be appreciated!
It's been kind of an odd day, food-wise. I've had 2 servings of strawberry cream cheese mousse, coffee with hwc, and a burrito bowl with ground beef, salsa verde, shredded cheese, and a quarter cup of rice.

I wonder sometimes if our bodies refuse to release excess weight until we eat enough to show we aren't trying to starve ourselves, and it doesn't need to hold on to the reserve.

I did it! It's almost 420. Last food intake was 1220p yesterday. I made my SO a steak with green peppers and onions fried in bacon fat with eggs last night for dinner. I kept thinking I should be grouchy and hungry but really wasn't. Woke up and just did my WI at 176.2 Did my planks last night and 3 sets of deadlifts with 7 reps with a 70 lb dumbbell so was happy about that This morning I'm heading to 545a Jazz and will wear my HR watch to stay low impact. Feeling pretty happy about IF so far. Eating early this morning so may extend my window today in case I go to dinner with family tonight - happy they chose a steak house. I will prob skip eating out, but want the option Hope y'all have a fab Thurs! I'm going to check out this yolk water bottle thing and have some yolks in bacon fat for breakfast, mmm yummmmm. Love this WOE.

PS. Clueless - are you sure you didn't punch your husband in your sleep?????!!!!! I sure did have some fun outta him yesterday. My daughter was kinda whispering, what happened. I was like "well, he made me mad, and that won't happen again." He played along too. LOL My lil DC girl said "Ms Cheryl, did you do that to him?" Looking at me all sheepish in disbelief. It was too funny. I guess a blood vessel burst in his eye lid. He is feeling a load better though, all the swelling is gone and his color is back and no more rash.
