Advice request:
I'm craving Ramen noodles. They are my comfort food and they are soooooo salty, carby deliciousness. I've indvertenly kept my carb count low today... so I could do a serving (26g carbs) of ramen with the rest of my meal tonight and still keep my carbs below 50.
Do I: 1) eat a half serving of Ramen (mostly empty carbs, noodles made with GMO grain)? 2) throw every package of Ramen noodles I own in the garbage?
Even in typing this out I can see what is probably the best option... but I'm worried about two things: 1) If I eat them, I'll feel horrible and/or will just end up craving more carbs/sugars. 2) If I don't eat them, I'll feel deprived and eventually gorge on all my favorite carb/GMO/sugar laden foods... which I have, unfortunately, done before (on many occasions *blushes*)
Any thoughts?

reepicheep1981 Could you, use the bouillon from the ramen noodles and boil some finely shredded cabbage in the broth? That could serve as a sub and if you liked it you would have a new cheep fix when you missed your noodles.

Are you otherwise wheat-free? If so, hands down the best choice is to refrain from eating them and go buy some Breyers LC ice cream or something. If you are not wheat-free then the question takes on a little bit of a different character. Is the first case a sure thing? You will for sure feel bad and get cravings? The second case has happened before. If both scenarios are real possibilities then I'd refrain and eat an LC type treat like the aforementioned ice cream. If #2 is certain but #1 is not certain then I might give half a serving a try to see if you can get away with eating them occasionally. Just on the by and by, there are a whole lot of LC friendly desert recipes around the internet, not the least of which is cheesecake. So you could try to avoid the noodles and treat yourself with some LC junk food type stuff. Cheryl's idea is interesting. It is easy to shave cabbage so it resembles noodles and all the flavor is in those little packets that come with the ramen.

Another though, are you drinking broth and or keeping sodium high enough. You could be craving the salt more than the noodles.

Clueless... I will definitely try the cabbage. I haven't been drinking broth and I'm not tracking sodium so I suppose it could be that.
Redarrin... I'm not 100% grain free bit I'm against GMOs so I'm trying to cut them out. #1 might happen, so I think I'll try both suggestions.
In other happy unforeseen circumstances, I won't be eating at home tonight so this will be experimented with tomorrow.
Thanks so much!

Shirataki noodles might satisfy the craving for ramen. I've read the best way to prepare them is to rinse well, microwave for 2 minutes, rinse again, and microwave for another minute or two. That's supposed to get rid of any fish-y odor.

I have some in my pantry and never thought of pairing them with the ramen flavoring! Yay!!! Clueless, you're quickly becoming a fav! Just FYI, for dinner (because I had to run) I had a mcdouble and a crispy chicken sammich... No buns. Still waaaay below 50 carbs and it was yummy! Tired now though... Sweet Low Carb dreams everyone! :0)

Good morning everybody! reepicheep.......the only thing I can suggest, that the others haven't, is broth with an egg (egg broth soup) the egg just gives the broth a bit of "body".......or when I want some something salty.....a pickle.......I know it's not 'noodley' but the saltiness can kill a craving!!!! Good luck! victlady......'hope you don't go down with anything horrible......take care of yourself!!! No changes in WI this morning......but most important....no bumps ......Blessings to all .....Happy Halloween!! x

I actually make my own version of egg drop soup fairly frequently which has probably helped me not crave them up until now (which is pretty amazing since I used to eat them nearly every day!) I am near my ToM though and its quite possible that's the reason behind the craving... I'm going to try the noodle seasoning with cabbage and also with the 'Magic' noodles (not together though). I'll make sure I have some LC sweet treats after to feel extra indulged. Hopefully that works. If not, I'll try a serving and pray hard that the inner HC monster doesn't rear her ugly head! LOLOL

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! If you hadn't noticed I love this holiday. Yesterday's numbers and today's weigh in. Cals 1366 Fat 110.73 Carb 39.59 Prot 61.88 Breakfast: Coffee w/ HWC (no CO) Lunch: Salad w/ egg, ham & bacon bits Dinner: Taco Salad Snack: ham & cheese crustless quiche, peanuts My numbers look really good (for me!) I just couldn't feel full last night but instead of prowling the kitchen like a carb eating primate, I ate crustless quiche I had made for lunches and peanuts! So much better than candy! Proud of myself actually. However, my weigh in was 271.4. a 1.2# bump. Remember those pizza carbs two days ago that I knew would come back to haunt me? Yup. But the best news is that I didn't get all pissy and "might as well just eat crap food". Nope! Suck with it today for breakfast and lunch. Even have left over omelet for dinner and more quiche if needed. I have S/F chocolates at the house if I just can't stand not having a treat tonight. So I think I've planned ahead for everything. Hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween.
